Position Highlights:

  • Position: Radiologic Technologist II
  • Hourly Pay Range: $28.50 - $46.00. The hourly pay rate offered is determined by a candidate's expertise and years of experience, among other factors.
  • Endeavor Health is currently conducting a comprehensive review of our compensation structure. The new minimum for this role will be adjusted to $29.68 base pay hourly rate beginning with May 2025 paychecks.
  • Location: Northwest Community Hospital, Arlington Heights
  • Full Time - 36 hours/week
  • Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm, rotating weekends and weekend
  • On call: 2-3 shifts per month
  • Required Travel: No

A Brief Overview:
Operates a variety of radiology equipment to produce radiographs of the body for diagnostic purposes as directed by the Radiologists, in accordance with established protocols. Assists physicians and other clinical staff with obtaining films, images, and other records using the Radiology PACS or hospital information systems. Explains procedure to patients, giving opportunity for questions to reduce anxiety and promote trust. Delivers and ensures customer service in all aspects of job.

What you will do:

  • Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and culture of patients served. This includes knowledge of the physical and psychological needs of patients served and the ability to respond appropriately to those needs.
  • Performs the following duties according to established policies and procedures.
  • Positions patient on examining table using immobilization devices to obtain desired radiographic results.
  • Talks to patient before and during test to educate or answer patient questions regarding procedures and to elicit patient cooperation to allay patient fear and/or apprehension.
  • Practices safe radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding skills and knowledge of applicable exposure factors to minimize radiation to patient and staff.
  • Moves x-ray equipment into specified position, calculates and selects proper technical factors such as voltage, current, exposure time, and focal distance based on information such as patients' age, physical condition, and the like.
  • Ensures files and records are properly completed with information such as patient's name, anatomical views taken, procedural code and so forth.
  • Processes exposed images following established procedures and evaluates film quality to determine if additional exposures are necessary.
  • Maintains a safe environment for both patients and personnel.
  • Reviews images to ensure are diagnostic and ready for a radiologists' interpretation. Evaluates anatomical views, image quality, completeness of study and other factors to ensure appropriate information is presented. Identifies discrepancies or inconsistencies in patient data and corrects the information in the PACS or EPIC systems.
  • Performs routine testing on equipment and accessories to ensure accurate results. Notifies and enters work orders to appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and records issue on equipment status board.
  • Operates mobile x-ray equipment in recovery room, emergency room or at patient's bedside as necessary.
  • Performs duties of the shift charge person when requested.
  • Carries charge pager and resolves any issues which may arise.
  • Organizes and distributes x-ray requisitions for daily work assignments to staff. Ensures the reason and priority for the exam is appropriate. Initiates phone calls to ordering physician if needed for clarification.
  • Coordinates inpatient workflow through central transport.
  • Provides service recovery when appropriate and informs supervisor of any incident.
  • Ensures each technologist (including OR charge person) remains productive and notifies immediate supervisor of any incidents.
  • Reports all issues related to PACS, networking, dry lasers and XR equipment to the PACS Administrator on recognition of issue.
  • Prepares, schedules, enters and verifies patient orders in the RIS system to ensure accurate patient scheduling and billing as well as accurate reports to physicians.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition and ensures it is properly supplied for diagnostic procedures.
  • Assists and contributes to the training of X-ray students and new employees.
  • Performs a variety of related tasks such as digitizing films and uploading image CDs from other facilities using multiple types of acquisition equipment. Creates data discs (CDs) of radiographic image sets for patients or referring physicians. Prints films in accordance with very specific standards and within FDA guidelines.
  • Keeps abreast of current trends and techniques in radiographic procedures and equipment through appropriate technical journals, attending in-services and other educational programs.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
  • May participate in a rotating on-call schedule.

What you will need:

  • High School Required Or
  • Diploma or Vocational Degree Required
  • Associates Degree Preferred
  • Prior x-ray experience in a hospital setting preferred
  • Knowledge of all current American College of Radiology (ACR)/JCAHO requirements to maintain compliance with all rules and regulations
  • Radiologic Technologist - Radiography - State of Illinois IEMA (IEMA) or "notice of IEMA compliance and authorization to perform medical radiation" Required
  • ARRT - Radiography (R) - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (i.e., Certificate of Program Completion or a letter from the Radiology Program Director of the accredited school.). Required
  • BLS - Basic Life Support (CPR and AED) - American Heart Association (AHA) Required
