LAW CLERK

Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection

Prosecutions & Adjudications

Number of Positions: 7

(Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval)

Starting Salary: $21.00 Hourly

Under supervision, provides support to the Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection ("BACP") in the performance of legal research, factual investigation, case settlement and prosecution at the Department of Administrative Hearings, and performs related duties as required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

* Researches questions of law and conducts factual investigations for assigned cases

* Summarizes and presents findings of legal research and factual investigations in written and oral reports

* Prepares and responds to discovery requests

* Interviews witnesses

* Assists attorneys in preparing legal cases for court or administrative hearings

* With 711 licensure, represents BACP in matters before the Department of Administrative Hearings

* Serves as a liaison between BACP and respondents, other City departments, and other agencies as required

Additional duties may be required for this position

Locations: 121 N. LaSalle St., 400 W Superior, or 2350 W Ogden, Chicago, IL

Days: Monday-Friday

Hours: Various (20 hours maximum per week)

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Completion of at least one semester in an American Bar Association (ABA) accredited law school

NOTE:

Preference will be given to candidates possessing the following:

* Possession of or eligibility for 711 license

* Experience in preparing and updating reports for use in court proceedings

* Experience conducting legal research utilizing electronic resources (i.e., Lexis-Nexis and Westlaw).

* Experience preparing summaries of legal documentation

* Experience reviewing and interpreting contracts.

* Possession of a cumulative law school grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 scale or 3.5 or above on a 5.0 scale

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
