JOB ANNOUNCEMENT Principal Programmer/Analyst Chicago Department of Public Health Bureau of Disease Control Number of Positions: 1 (Additional vacancies possible pending budget approval) Starting Salary: $115,776 This position is open to the public and all current City employees covered under the City's collective bargaining agreement with AMERICAN FEDERATION OF STATE, COUNTY, AND MUNICIPAL EMPLOYEES (AFSCME) - BARGAINING UNIT 1, 3, 4 & 5. As a member of the CDPH Disease Control Bureau, the Principal Programmer/Analyst performs specialized data processing and analysis functions to enhance public health surveillance and emergency response capabilities in the City of Chicago. ROLE SUMMARY As a member of the CDPH Disease Control Bureau's Epidemiology Program, the Principal Programmer/Analyst plays a key role in the development, improvement, maintenance, automation, and modernization of data flows, visualizations, reports, and dissemination methods. This individual will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement solutions that optimize the flow of data, enhance reporting processes, and ensure the seamless delivery of insights to key stakeholders. Leveraging a deep understanding of programming, data engineering, and analytics, the Principal Programmer/Analyst will lead efforts to automate manual processes, modernize legacy systems, and improve data accessibility and visualization techniques. The Principal Programmer/Analyst will also actively develop, maintain, and enhance public health surveillance and reporting tools built on different infrastructures, mainly including R, SAS, and web-coding. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in Computer Sciences, Information Technology/Systems, or a directly related field, plus three years of experience in the design and development of computerized systems, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience, provided that the minimum degree requirement is met.
