POSITION DETAILS

Position Summary

The Design Engineer supports the design effort of mechanical devices under the technical guidance/mentorship of the Principal Engineer, and reporting to Sr. Engineering Manager.

This position requires interactions with other engineering associates, suppliers, and applicable departmental assignees (production, sales, quality, program management, etc.) in a Concurrent Engineering environment, to develop producible and economical design solutions.

Hands-on participation in the test laboratory and related design validation, prototype development, as well as product preparation activities.

Principal Activities


  • Performs Mechanical design activities for New Product Development and Sustaining projects.
  • Prepares Design 3D models, 2D drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and all design related documentation or reports.
  • Performs tolerance stack-ups, fits and clearances.
  • Performs analytical and/or experimental testing as necessary to demonstrate soundness of the design.
  • Works together with New Product Introduction team to ensure designs are efficient in performance, manufacture, cost and inspection.
  • Investigates production problems when called upon and searches for solutions.
  • Supports applicable test and assembly procedures and reports for design verification and manufacturing.
  • Supports fabrication of prototypes, fixtures and tooling needed.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Experience:


  • CAD detail and assembly design.
    (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Familiarity with simulation tools.
    (e.g.
    MathCAD, Simulink, etc.)
  • Understanding of GD&T per ASME Y14.5
  • Linear Stress Analysis.
    (FEA experience is a plus)
  • Structural Mechanics - Fastening Methods, Torque Design, Material Selection, Bearing Design
  • Understanding of Machine Elements in Mechanical Design - Strength of Materials, Processing, Finish, etc.
  • Technical Writing - Technical Proposals, Assembly and Test Procedures Reports, Failure Analysis
  • Familiarity with electronics and EMI (is a plus)

Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or relevant subject.

PAY RANGE: $ 75,000.00 - $95,000.00.
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
