ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS



  • Work under the direction of department management to ensure HV laboratory and test equipment (impulse generator, series resonator etc.) are in proper working condition and calibrated.
  • Perform HV dielectric testing and electrical measurements on Capacitors, Reactors, Stator coils and Stator Test Bars, Insulators, Bushings and Lighting Arresters and various insulating materials.
  • Perform AC, DC and Impulse Dielectric Strength, Capacitance, Power Factor, Partial Discharge, Dielectric Constant, Insulation Resistance, Voltage Endurance Studies and other studies as required.
  • Maintain field test equipment inventory and ensure Field Engineering group are adequately equipped for field testing projects.
  • Assist Field Engineering group as needed testing electrical assets at customer locations including, but not limited to, utility companies, generation plants, and industrial sites.

    • PD Site Acceptance testing on MV/HV cables, transformers, generators, and motors.
    • PD identification and localization on MV/HV cables, transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, switchyards, and bus systems.
    • EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) testing on motors, generators, isophase buses.


  • Under direction of department management, implement safety program in HV lab to always ensure a safe environment and safe operation of equipment and personnel.
  • Update and maintain all relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs.)
  • Travel Required: Approximately 30-50%. This level can vary due to customer demand.
  • Approve equipment for shipment to field engineers for use on site
  • Determine validity of data generated in laboratory and in the field
  • Provide recommendations on technical reports for review and approval by senior engineering staff.
  • Assess equipment condition to avoid failure or determine need for repairs.


QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Electrical/Electronics/Power Engineering or similar.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:



  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working in substation, power plants, nuclear facilities, or industrial power systems
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating and trouble-shooting test equipment used for electrical apparatus tests
  • Familiarity with high voltage test environment


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE (Not Required):



  • Experience with testing or maintenance of high voltage assets in power plants or heavy industry
  • Certified Infrared thermographer
  • Prior HV Lab experience including the performance and set up of test circuits.
  • Independent hands-on field test experience.
  • Hands-on experience using Doble and laboratory test equipment.

  • Collaborative work style with ability to interface with all levels of staff and management and work well within a team.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is often required to stand, sit, use computers, read, write, type, use copy machines, file paperwork, use telephones, and utilize written and oral communication to interact with clients, co-workers, and customers. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform the essential functions of this job. Must be capable of lifting 30 pounds. Must use assistance when lifting 50 or more pounds.

Actual base salary offered to the hired applicant will be determined based on their work location, level, qualifications, job related skills, as well as relevant education or training experience.
