This position is located in the San Francisco office. Salesforce is seeking a Software Engineer, Performance Engineer across multiple teams within our organization!   • You will have the chance to create performance experiments, collect and evaluate data.
  • Develop power tools and automation frameworks for continuous integration, performance measurement and evaluation.
  • Add to the design and velocity of our global products.
  • Optimize our systems end-to-end by advising infrastructure design, server and application development/ tuning, solving sophisticated cluster architecture and any data storage issues that impact features within artificial intelligence, IoT, Platform, API's and mobile UI experiences.

If you are a developer that is passionate about performance, or a performance tester that is also interested in contributing performance improvements, we would love to hear from you.

This candidate must have the technical prowess to write fast and efficient code, find inefficiencies and influence others to make performance improvements. In addition, this engineer needs to measure and demonstrate performance gains in a scientific way, by building/running workloads or simulations. The candidate should be comfortable in discussing time/space complexity using O(n) notation and engage in a project's design phase for its performance and scalability considerations. You are the performance specialist for your scrum team, and should be responsible for your team's performance related problems on production.

Required Skills:

  • Candidates having minimum of 5 years of performance engineering experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Java programming language.
  • Proven experience in system architectures, operating systems, databases, middle tier components such as Java/J2EE, Kafka, and how to optimally utilize such systems to achieve performant and scalable systems.
  • Ability to dig deep into complex pieces of code to understand system design with an eye for performance and scalability bottlenecks with an aim to optimize code.
  • Ability to automate operations such as simulation execution, monitoring, analysis, and a deep desire to do it.
  • Performance Engineering experiences with a distinguished track record on technically demanding projects.
  • Experience in database performance, such as SQL tuning and optimization.
  • Understanding mid tier performance (e.g. Java profiling) and related tools.
  • Proven experience with load generation / measurement software and concepts (e.g. JMeter, or other custom load generation software) for HTTP, REST, RPC and similar cloud systems.
  • Solid understanding of database tuning and administration (e.g. Oracle).
  • Working knowledge of operating system design / tuning / tools (e.g. Linux, OProfile).
  • A related technical degree required

Additional required skills for Mobile Performance roles:

  • Experience debugging performance issues on a hybrid mobile application
  • Experience with front end or back end profilingand hybrid native/web applications and WebViews
  • Experience debugging Javascript code, using tools such as chrome devtools and safari debugger
  • Detailed understanding of concurrency and threading model, and how to debug and optimize threads and locking to squeeze performance out of every mobile device

Desired Skills:

  • 3+ years working on multiple releases with short cycles (3-6 months).
  • Familiar with APM software.
  • Familiar with Java Application servers (e.g. Jetty, Resin, Weblogic, WebSphere, JBoss).
  • Familiar with database clustering/scaling technologies (e.g. RAC, Grid, OPS).
  • Familiar with cloud native architectures.

For California-based roles, the base salary hiring range for this position is $172,000 to $276,100. Compensation offered will be determined by factors such as location, level, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Certain roles may be eligible for incentive compensation, equity, benefits.
