POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE: Inclusion Aide (Temporary 40 hrs)

LOCATION/DEPT: North & Central Illinois Division / Ray & Joan Kroc Corps Community Center

REPORTS TO (TITLE): Arts & Education Program Manager

PAY GRADE: 204

PAY RATE $20.00

The inclusion aide is responsible for supporting and assisting one or more individuals with disabilities to be successful in day camp or afterschool programs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide participants a safe environment.



  • Enforces and promote safety guidelines for the child in his/her recreation and athletic activities.
  • Follow Safe from Harm Guidelines/Procedures
  • Assist and include individuals with disability to participate in all activities pertaining to program.
  • Keep participant issue confidential. Do not share issues with other campers, parents, or patrons, news organization, or staffers who are not involved.
  • Communicate all incidents to Day Camp Manager immediately.


Provide enriching and stimulating environment.



  • Evaluates the child's skill level and assess his/her capacity to participate in recreation and athletic activities.
  • Encourage campers to participate in a variety of disciplines.
  • Adapt activities, rules, equipment and/or supplies as needed to ensure quality participation and the most independent participation possible.
  • Recognize the spiritual need of individuals, which may require referral to the Day Camp Director or Manager.
  • Assist in athletic program area preparation/clean up and/or additional shifts within the athletics department. Assist in supervision of gymnasium, field and special events and game room areas.
  • Identify sparks within program participants.
  • Build assets in program participants.
  • Adhere to dress code at all times.May be required to wear activity appropriate attire (i.e., swimwear for Aquatics, etc.)


Provide excellent customer service and communication with parents.



  • Greet campers and parents, by name, enthusiastically.
  • Interface respectfully with peers, supervisors and customers of various socio-economic backgrounds. Handle disputes with participants, parents and students in a professional manner with guidance of Day Camp Manager.
  • Communicate any disciplinary issues to director and parents.


Encourage Day Camp participants to the next level of participation at the Kroc Center.



  • Have knowledge of other Kroc Center programs and answer questions.
  • Promote membership and classes.


Other Duties as assigned.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE



  • A High School diploma or a GED is required. Some related college coursework preferred.
  • 2 years experience working with children with disabilities.
  • Basic knowledge of competitive sports programs for individuals with disabilities.
  • Experience with a computer based work environment and a working knowledge of Word.
  • CPR/First Aid/AED Certified.

  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills, using diplomacy and good judgment.
  • Demonstrated ability to use initiative and be a self-starter.
  • An attention to detail.
  • A positive attitude and the ability to be flexible in light of changing job situations/priorities.
  • An ability to work with confidential material.
  • Enthusiastic about recreational programs and arts programs.
  • Computer knowledge helpful but not necessary.
  • Successfully complete Safe From Harm training as established by The Salvation Army.
  • A willingness to promote the mission of The Salvation Army.
