Responsibilities
POSITION SUMMARY: The Interventional Radiology Nurse Practitioner (IRNP) works in collaboration with the Interventional Radiologists to provide Comprehensive Care for patients. The IRNP is able to perform diagnostic exams without a radiologist present. The IRNP is responsible for the following tasks: pre-assesment, intervention, and evaluation; completing history and physical exams, ordering diagnostic studies, interpreting test results and exam images, performing radiological procedures under imaging guidance with or without a radiologist present, performing fluoro exams, providing oral and written communication with referring physicians and other clinical staff, developing and implementing patient treatment plans all under the guidelines set forth in the policies and procedures and Bylaws of South Texas Health System (STHS). As a clinical leader for the Interventional Radiology program, the IRNP is involved in process improvement projects and is an educational resource for patient, families, and staff. Potentially, IRNP will play a vital role in the community outreach programs for disseminating information for new and advance radiological technologies that are available for service.
