Job Description

Torch Technologies is seeking an accomplished and forward-leaning Chief Scientist - Integrated Vehicle Systems & Diagnostics to lead enterprise-level innovation, development, and transition-to-production of integrated technologies across all domains - including air, ground, and maritime systems. This technical role will shape and execute strategy for advanced diagnostics, health monitoring, autonomy support systems, and lifecycle sustainment solutions for multi-domain platforms serving all branches of the U.S. Military. This position demands deep expertise in production-grade system delivery and fielded capability development across Joint Services, as well as proven leadership in software and systems engineering, big data and AI/ML integration, and emerging technologies that enhance mission readiness and operational decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the technical leader for the design, development, integration, and fielding of production-ready diagnostic, prognostic, and health management systems across Joint Service platforms.
  • Lead efforts spanning air and ground systems, ensuring integration with cyber-resilient architectures and data ecosystems.
  • Drive innovation in embedded software, intelligent sensors, big data analytics, and autonomy-enabling diagnostic systems aligned with platform lifecycle needs.
  • Direct cross-functional teams in delivering mission-critical capabilities through systems engineering, model-based approaches, and DevSecOps practices.
  • Oversee and guide development from concept to production deployment, including validation, verification, integration, and sustainment support.
  • Collaborate with DoD stakeholders to define evolving requirements and deliver capabilities that meet Service-specific mission profiles.
  • Engage with program offices, acquisition stakeholders, and labs to influence future investments, S&T strategy, and roadmap alignment.
  • Act as a technical expert on white papers, proposals, and capture efforts supporting business development and technology transition and technology insertions.
  • Represent the organization in technical exchanges, industry forums, and advisory roles, while mentoring engineers and shaping internal innovation culture.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience delivering production-grade vehicle or platform systems (air, ground, maritime, space, or cyber), with fielded solutions across multiple Service branches (e.g., Air Force, Army, Navy, USMC, SOCOM).
  • Proven leadership in transitioning R&D concepts into production capabilities across complex acquisition and operational environments.
  • Strong foundation in software and systems engineering, including embedded diagnostics, digital engineering, and system integration.
  • Hands-on experience with big data platforms, AI/ML applications for prognostics, and real-time embedded health monitoring systems.
  • Deep familiarity with modular open systems architectures (MOSA), digital thread/digital twin initiatives, and sustainment engineering.
  • Demonstrated success influencing DoD S&T investments, driving proposals, and delivering on strategic technical programs.
  • Experience managing multi-domain system integration and interoperability for Joint operations and platform-level sustainment strategies.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and technical mentorship abilities.
  • Active DoD secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's. in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 15+ years of experience delivering production-grade vehicle or platform systems (air, ground, maritime, space, or cyber), with fielded solutions across multiple Service branches (e.g., Air Force, Army, Navy, USMC, SOCOM).
  • Knowledge of standards such as FACE, MOSA, DO-178C, and other Joint architecture frameworks.
  • Experience leading SBIR/STTR transitions, OTAs, or rapid prototyping to production pathways.
  • Background supporting unmanned systems, autonomy, predictive logistics, or AI-based sustainment operations.
