Acara Solutions has been providing staffing services nationally for over 65 years. We have a long-term contract opening for a
Control Center Application Engineer with our railway client in Atlanta, GA. This position is long-term, expected to last at least 1 year and possibly up to 5 years. There is a chance of contract-to-direct for the right individual.
This is an onsite Monday - Friday position in North Atlanta (Off Peachtree Road in Chamblee).
There will be 3 people in this small group (manager and two employees). The role is open due to a promotion.
Work with established team on the MARTA project based in Atlanta, GA. The Control Center System includes 3 subsystems: ATS (Automatic Train Supervision), SCADA and Security System. Responsible for ensuring the successful integration and functionality of the Control Center System. Work with teams across the business (including System team, ATS Specification project team, and ATS tools team), monitor and control various subsystems such as Signal, Switch, Track circuit, and Train Movement. Will perform requirement analysis and allocation (for all technical contractual requirements) up through Test & Commissioning and final solution acceptance by the customer.
* ICC application (office software) supporting TMS (train management system)
* Position is responsible for the software that manages where the train is moving to
* This is a customer facing position with many meetings. Customer will come directly to this contractor for help.
* This is a troubleshooting position where it's helpful to be 'Jack of all trades'
* System refresh duties
* Provide input for process improvement
* Possible need to visit station offices from time-to-time (IT closets)
* On call support balanced out among team members
* Documentation work expected with possible updating of documents expected
  • Assist in the technical deployment while coordinating between engineering disciplines (including externals) to ensure the customer acceptance of the project solution
  • Ensure that applicable technical documents are distributed to all relevant project disciplines
  • Ensure project documentation approval by customer
  • Ensure the management of configuration throughout the project life cycle (as-designed, as-built, as-shipped, as-installed etc.)
  • Act as the engineering liaison to all project disciplines, including externals
  • Define, produce, and validate all Control Center System application data and parameters to customize a System / Sub-system for a given project/product
  • Ensure that all the technical requirements, from analysis to demonstration, are managed throughout the project lifecycle
  • Perform Data Preparation and testing for ATS, SCADA and Security System based on the Design Document and Tools
  • Perform Integration between products, modules, Interfaces, including HMI, and data. Produce deployment tool.
  • Assist in defining Test Plan and Integration documents and as well as perform tests
  • Produce customized engineering solutions including interconnections between systems and sub-systems
  • Assisting in defect analysis to identify the component causing issues and interfacing with producers for resolution
  • Providing feedback to inputs producers such as the System team and ATS Specification project team
  • Together with the Project Manager, identify, raise and manage variation orders
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree - ideally BSCS or similar technical field
Min 3 years (prefer 5+) of experience in Linux administration/operating systems and ideally Windows systems
Including:
- Systems Engineering familiarity (ideally including V Model understanding)
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
Strong network understanding
A certification or demonstrated skill in technical assessment and network troubleshooting, with knowledge of tools like GDB, Wireshark, etc.
Experience or understanding of controls and/or communication systems design, operation, and evaluation
System Engineering and Applications Engineering and/or System Test/Validation
Scripting as a whole is really helpful, Unix Shell scripting
SCADA basic understanding. HMI a plus.
Industry standard protocols experience such as Modbus, TCP/IP, and Serial Communication
Object-Oriented Programming - C/C++ nice to have
