HX5 is currently seeking a System Safety Engineer to join our team in Houston, Texas at NASA's Johnson Space Center.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
System Safety Engineers (SSE) provide product and project safety expertise to Government furnished Flight Equipment
projects. The SSE is an integral member of the Project Team for all phases of the project: from project kick-off and
development (PDR, CDR, etc.) through product delivery for flight. The SSE develops the initial safety assessment (Initial
Assessment of Criticality), Hazard Analysis, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis, and the Safety Data Package for the
project, and represents the project at all Safety Reviews and is the project safety expert. Providing deliverables per
the project schedule and providing high quality documentation are the priorities for the SSE. The SSE also supports
safety document updates for modifications to existing flight products and supports projects on other safety activities as
necessary. Track the closure of any Safety Verification Tracking Log items open after the safety approval of hardware
and report their completion to the appropriate safety panel. Provide support for the documentation of on-orbit anomaly
investigations and correction efforts, including Maintenance Hazard Assessments, Hazard Report Change Requests, and
Safety Non-compliance Reports. Review test and verification plans to ensure the requirements of the Safety Panel are
being met. Hold working groups and Technical Interchange Meetings with safety panel Subject Matter Experts and Panel
Representatives to clarify implementation requirements. Perform other duties as required.
Education andExperience

- Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Engineering and a minimum of (eight) 8 years of experience in the field or in a
related area. - Ability to work on multiple projects, within matrix team environments, and to demanding schedules is required; examples of capabilities may be requested during interview process.
- Strong written and oral communications skills with comfortability speaking with the Customer, NASA safety panel representatives, and giving presentations in front of a large group of technically diverse people
- Must meet eligibility requirements to receive and maintain a NASA security clearance.
Requisition Preferences
- BS degree in Engineering from an accredited university and ten (10) years or related engineering experience; prefer
degree in ME, EE, or Aerospace Safety. System Safety experience in the aerospace industry is a plus, but not required. - Knowledge of Hazard reports within the ISS Hazard System (IHS) Database
- Understanding of NASA JSC safety approval process and requirements
Other Requirements
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or US Permanent Residency is a requirement for this position.
- Must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation.
