Summary

The Director of Software Engineering will lead the Software Engineering Training Platforms department at CAE USA. They will be responsible for the overall technical, fiscal, and schedule performance of the department in support of CAE USA and corporate strategic objectives. Applicant must have leadership capabilities for technical management of simulation and training programs and subsystems, with detailed knowledge of Software Engineering practices and methodologies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Managing execution of tasks assigned to the Software Engineering department, including technical oversight, and financial and schedule performance

  • Leading software development in all phases in the program lifecycle from requirements analysis through product delivery

  • Resource management ensuring all program and departmental tasking is assigned for on-time completion, and man-loading projections to ensure staffing to meet forecast needs

  • Personnel management as first level and second level supervisor including performance evaluations, training, and career development

  • Execution of software development methodologies (Agile, Evolutionary, Waterfall, etc.)

  • Provide a highly engaged work environment for department team members.

  • Leadership over the Lead to Award (L2A) process for the department's efforts through both supervision and direct participation in proposal writing, proposal and solution review, and costing development and approval

  • Metrics-based management used to drive continuous performance improvement through the identification and implementation of department initiatives

  • Identify potential risks and issues, makes and implements recommendations to management when escalation is required

  • Collaborate with other managers and professionals throughout the organization to effectively identify and resolve technical or program issues and take ownership for driving these issues to closure

  • Identification and evaluation of new technologies and industry trends and best practices for application in our business

  • Define and maintain software process documentation.

  • Ensure common software architectures and artifacts across programs

  • Prepare and present briefings to senior leadership and stakeholders

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • BS in Software, Computer or related Engineering discipline (prefer advanced degree)

  • Minimum 10 years of experience working in an Engineering discipline

  • 5+ years of experience managing software engineering development (prefer 10+)

  • 5+ years of experience in simulation training systems with a focus on aircraft platform

  • Must be effective at time management, facilitating meetings, planning, execution, risks identification, management, and mitigation.

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and team building skills to motivate people, help negotiate priorities, and to resolve conflicts among project stakeholders

  • Proven experience identifying and implementing next generation technologies

  • Results driven with experience working in collaborative environments across organizations

  • Proven written and oral communication skills, including presentations to senior leadership teams

  • Sufficient understanding of business concepts to effectively manage budget and schedule performance

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously through proper delegation skills and selective personal involvement

  • Active DoD Secret clearance or the ability to obtain one

  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Security Responsibilities

Must complywith all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures. Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval. All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources.

  • Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance.

Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
