Basic Qualifications
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, or a related Science, Engineering or Mathematics field. Also requires 8+ years of job-related experience, or a Master's degree plus 6 years of job-related experience. Must have Analog Electronics (tranformers, preamplifiers, PLL) experience. CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS: Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required within a reasonable period. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.
Responsibilities for this Position
ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES: As an electrical engineer for GD-MS Progeny, you'll be a member of or lead a cross functional team. We encourage you to apply if you have any of these preferred skills or experiences: Familiarity with transformers and inductors. Familiarity with very low noise per-amplifiers. Working knowledge of analog topics such as active filter design and PLL Design. Duties and Tasks:
- Responsible and accountable for the electrical technical planning, scheduling, cost analysis, risk analysis and successful execution of small to medium programs or major electrical subsystems of a larger program containing substantial electrical content
- Substantial contribution to electrical requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis (e.g. timing, power, etc.), interface analysis and definition for the design, integration and verification of electrical components, equipment and systems for major programs and projects containing substantial, complex electrical content
- Leads the requirements and functional allocation to electrical units, modules and components
- Plans and leads electrical engineering root cause analysis for complex electrical issues, conducts experimental tests, evaluates results to formulate and implement solutions to issues
- Substantial contribution to the generation and maintenance of electrical work products (i.e. plans, specifications, design documentation, etc.) used for internal consumption and/or deliverable to external customers
- Develops and presents electrical requirements, concepts, designs, decisions and results to internal management, other organizations, teammates and external customers
- Provides substantial contributions to technical subcontract management that may include SOW development, proposal evaluation, source selection, technical oversight, and subcontractor work product evaluation and acceptance
- Leads electrical reviews of electrical components, equipment and systems
- Evaluates vendor capability to support product development
- Applies a strong understanding of the organizationally defined electrical processes throughout the life-cycle of the program or project
- Participation in the improvement of the electrical organizational processes
- Supports the generation of technical engineering products by using the appropriate standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the electrical development life cycle
- Leads the research and analysis of data, such as customer design proposal, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design or application
- Selects components and equipment based on analysis of specifications and reliability
- Leads small technical proposals and contributes to proposals General Dynamics Proprietary Information
- May serve as a proposal cost or technical volume manager
- May supervise lower level employees
- Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignments
- Guides the successful completion of programs and projects
- Generally, works with multiple work groups, including with senior levels of l work groups
- Generally, works on diverse range of complex problems requiring ingenuity and creativity without appreciable direction
- Generally, has regular contact with project leaders and Program Managers and Senior Managers including external customers
- May function in a project leadership role
- Erroneous decisions or recommendations may result in failure to achieve organization objectives
Necessary Skills:
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering processes
- Familiarity with transformers and inductors and how to size them. Be able to calculate key parameters such as flux density magnetizing current, leakage inductance, transformer and inductors losses and temperature rise
- Familiar with very low noise preamplifiers
- Working knowledge of other analog topics such as active filter design, and PLL design
- Working knowledge of OP-amps and transistors, including Bipolar, JFETS and MOSFETS
- Working knowledge of typical lab equipment
- Candidate should have excellent writing skills, and the ability to write proposals, spec, and test documents
- Security clearance will be required
Additional Preferred Skills:
- Working knowledge of acoustics, and willing to learn under water acoustics specifically
- Understand and design Power Amplifiers, Class A, AB, C, D and S
- Working knowledge of digital electronics including logic design, memory interfaces, basic knowledge of Ethernet, especially the physical layer
- Familiarity with OrCad, MathCad and MatLab
- Some RF and transmission line theory
- Some knowledge of FPGA design
- Aware of business objective and Engineering role in achieving
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to think creatively
- Ability to multi-task
- Highly skilled in communicating issues, impacts, and corrective actions.
- Ability to recognize and clearly report information relevant to sound electrical engineering design
- Understands and applies basic project leadership principles including SPI/CPI, Earned Value, Cost Account Management (CAM), and Statistical Process Controls
- Demonstrated ability to track scope growth
- Travel may be required
- Grasps and applies new information quickly
- Strong ability to handle more complex problems
- Shows initiative on assignments, exercises strong independent judgment
Willing to learn:

- Understand complex impedance matching of an acoustic transducer through the use of inductors, transformers (including the leakage inductance and primary inductance of the transformer), and capacitors
- LabView / LabWindows test software
- Fundamentals of Digital Signal Processing

While on-site, you will be a part of the West Valley City, Utah location. #CJ2 #LI-Hybrid Target salary range: USD $139,189.00/Yr. - USD $154,412.00/Yr.
