The Washington Engineering Office (WEO) provides on-site support to NAVSEA command at the Washington Navy Yard, including PEO SSN, PEO SSBN, and PEO UWS. The selected candidate will primarily support PEO SSBN (PMS 396) for OHIO Class ships (SSBN/SSGN) as an OHIO Class Planning Yard liaison, as well as assist with preparation for COLUMBIA Class support.

The Engineer will liaison with internal and external stakeholders, including engineers and task managers, to support the day-to-day execution of submarine modernization alteration installations. Responsibilities include:

    Establish and maintain internal and external professional relationships across several cross-functional teams
  • Develop coordinated planning documents, tracking tools, and meeting agendas in support of ship availabilities and material procurement
  • Coordinate the preparation of material purchase for availabilities using multiple NAVSEA planning documents and databases
  • Provide direct support to PMS396D1 Installation Manager and associated team
  • Effectively communicate various technical, logistical, and programmatic issues with NAVSEA and EB task managers
  • Read and understand contract performance metrics and be able to comprehensively explain the metrics to NAVSEA stakeholders
  • Perform technical review and routing of temporary alteration (TEMPALT) packages for SSBNs/SSGNs and SSNs
  • Travel to various enterprise meeting as both a representative of EB and as support for PMS396D
  • Manage data and create reports from various database systems as well as experience interacting with external customer organizations

The Engineer will be expected to acquire and maintain a Common Access Card (CAC) for access into NAVSEA controlled spaces and systems and a PKI certificate for sending/receiving correspondence via CITIS.

This is a hybrid work environment, with up to 40% being remote. Relocation to the greater Washington, D.C. area (DC, Maryland, and Northern Virginia) is required.

This role requires an understanding of submarine hull, mechanical and electrical (HM&E) systems as well as non-propulsion electrical systems (NPES).



Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelors of Science degree in Engineering
  • 2-4 years relevant work experience

Preferred:

  • Experience interacting with NAVSEA or TYCOM personnel (remotely or in-person)
  • Knowledge of Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) products and shipyard test procedures
  • Knowledge of submarine maintenance, modernization, and sustainment procedures
  • Experience with SSBN and/or SSN maintenance plans and operation cycles
  • Experience working with Contracts, Planning, and/or Program Finance
  • Experience with Teamcenter and associated Digital Enterprise tools
  • Experience working with naval maintenance activities and in-service engineering agents (ISEAs) or participating managers (PARMs)
  • Active Secret clearance or higher
