SUMMARY
This position is responsible for managing the work of assigned technical committees. This includes working directly with committee leadership and committee members, ensuring the successful development of standards, interfacing with colleagues across the organization, supporting and promoting the work of the technical committee. This position is also responsible for using industry knowledge to strategically advance the committees' objectives, monitoring and improving committee health, developing and maintaining strategic partnerships, and promoting the work of technical committees in relevant industry venues.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manage technical committees and the development of standards:
    • Support the operation of the technical committees
    • Facilitate the timely development of SAE standards
    • Act as focal point for enquires and communications, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures and deliver training
    • Work closely with technical committee leadership to advance the committees' strategic objective
    • Identify and take the lead for solving issues as needed
    • Ensure standards are authored in accordance with SAE Style Manual
    • Work with the technical committee leadership and members, using industry knowledge, metrics and data to assess committee health and drive improvements and growth, including new topics and committee participation.
  • Working with the SAE Standards Operations Specialist, organize virtual and in-person committee meetings
  • Manage, and represent SAE at, technical committee meetings
  • Collaborate with colleagues (such as product, content management, legal, marketing and sales) to facilitate the end-to-end standards process
  • Supporting, maintaining and providing training on SAE platforms, policies and procedures.
  • Perform staff lead role with for SAE Standards Systems Groups
  • Identify and execute game-changing process improvements
  • Hire, supervise and assign work to Editorial Consultants and other subcontractors as needed
  • Manage partnerships with internal programs and external associations and organizations
  • Understand the technical scope of the technical committee
  • Maintain and grow awareness of aerospace/ground vehicle industry
  • Identify promotional and collaborative opportunities to advance the work of SAE technical committees.
  • Promote (including giving presentations) the work of SAE technical committees in industry venues.
  • Direct the marketing of committees' standards and activities
  • Build and maintain relationships with partner organizations

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's Degree in business or related field, and
  • 4 years' (5+ years preferred) experience in managing committees/working with technical organizations or similar collaborative groups
  • Ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures while maintaining business and strategic interests
  • Strong reliability and professionalism
  • Ability to work in a team and individually
  • Ability to assimilate technical information

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working in or with the aerospace industry
  • Experience in managing people (i.e., supervision, volunteerism)

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Ability to travel 40% of the time
  • Ability to work for long periods at a computer desk
  • Standard office environment
