About The Role

The Springer Nature Journals Group aims to support researchers in communicating and advancing discovery for a better world. We do this by providing a trusted environment in which researchers can quickly, easily and transparently share their discoveries, data and research stories.

The Collections Management and Acquisition Team is a division within the Publishing Performance & Intelligence group providing expertiseand dedicated resources to support the growth of commissioned content across the SN Journal portfolio.

The Managing Editor will work with commissioning editors, publishers, external editors and our operational partners to organize and manage collections on behalf of key parts of the SN Journals portfolio. They will be responsible for the project management of multiple live collections and will work closely with our operational teams to provide an enhanced level of oversight for commissioned articles.

Increasing commissioned content is an essential part of our strategy to grow our open access portfolio and this role ensures we can do this at scale while maintaining an excellent level of quality and author service.

Responsibilities:

  • Project management of live collections

  • Support Commissioning Editor/Guest Editor and Authors with queries

  • Engagement with the Marketing department

  • Contact point for Guest Editor and operations throughout the collection

  • Reporting on Performance of Collection

  • Monitoring of content flow and delivery against collection submission window

  • Enhanced oversight to ensure service and quality and key escalation point

  • Responsible for filtering of MS and general oversight that peer review is in place for commissioned content

  • Assign new submissions to assistant editor and support as needed

  • Monitor turnaround times (TATs)

  • With the Editorial Support Advisor team contribute to robust workflow documentation to be used across all portfolios

  • Point of contact for production and other queries.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree

  • Solid experience of journal publishing workflows, specifically around submit to accept

  • In-depth understanding of publishing ethics and integrity issues

  • Strong relationship-building skills to collaborate effectively with editors, authors, and cross-functional teams

  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks and stakeholders

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including written and in person/on the phone

  • Strong administrative and organizational skills, with a proactive approach to improving workflows

  • Excellent communication skills - both written and verbal

  • Has a sound understanding of the balance between operational efficiency and editorial rigor

  • Awareness of Open Access publishing models, policies, and best practices is desirable

US Annualized Base Salary Range: $64,350 - 70,000. The salary offer may vary based on work experience, education, skill level and equity. The US salary range does not align with the salary ranges in other countries when converted to the currency of that country.
