Department Overview

PG&E's Power Generation Department manages and operates the largest privately-owned hydroelectric system in the nation. These renewable electric generation resources, located mostly at high elevation in California mountain ranges including the Sierra Nevada and southern Cascade mountains include 68 powerhouses, 184 miles of canals, 41 miles of flumes, 135 miles of tunnels, 19 miles of penstocks, 99 reservoirs, and 142,000 acres of watershed lands all covered by 26 operating licenses issued by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).

Position Summary

Responsible for upholding engineering excellence through comprehensive support and rigorous quality control for hydroelectric and fossil/renewable projects. This role involves developing and maintaining engineering standards that align with industry best practices, overseeing quality assurance processes, and fostering continuous improvement to enhance project efficiency and effectiveness. The Supervisor will collaborate closely with the Project Execution Organization to ensure timely and budget-conscious project delivery while driving innovation and adherence to engineering standards. The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of engineering principles and standards, and a commitment to continuous improvement and innovation.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location is flexible within the PG&E Service Territory.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $151,000

Bay Area Maximum: $257,000

OR

California Minimum: $143,000

California Maximum: $244,000

Responsibilities

  • Report project scope, schedule, cost and risk management information to manager, various stakeholders and business partners.
  • Participate in inter-department meetings with Business Planning, Operations, and other departments to continually improve processes and efficiency.
  • Reviews engineering design packages for quality assurance/control validations ensuring compliance with Power Generation engineering guidelines and standards and proper compliance with applicable industry engineering guidelines and standards.
  • Provides project scope, scheduling, cost, and risk management information and reporting to project management and representatives within various lines of business (LOB).
  • Ensures all engineering projects, tasks, functions, tools, policies, standards, and procedures are designed, coordinated, and aligned to emphasize safety and minimize risks.
  • Collaborates with various departments and LOB to continuously improve processes and efficiencies.
  • Provides direct supervision, staffing, training, coaching, and mentoring to ESC employees. Assigns work, prioritizes projects, and monitors employees.
  • Implement and oversee rigorous quality control processes to monitor design accuracy and project adherence to hydro design guides.
  • Conduct thorough design reviews, inspections, and audits to identify and address potential issues early, minimizing risks and ensuring high-quality outcomes.
  • Drive continuous improvement by assessing and refining engineering standards, processes, and methodologies to enhance efficiency and reduce waste.
  • Promote effective communication and collaboration within project teams and stakeholders to support seamless project execution and adherence to engineering standards.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of engineering processes, quality control, and project execution, making necessary adjustments to maintain high standards of engineering practice.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license
  • Five (5) years of related experience

Desired:

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree
  • Master's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or other related certifications from the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA)
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma (LSS)
  • Experience in engineering project planning, evaluation, safety, and systems
  • Supervisory or management experience
  • Knowledge of engineering and design practices
  • Ability to build and sustain strong cooperative relationships with various levels of management, leadership, and personnel at PG&E
  • Ability to effectively manage conflicting and competing priorities, interests, and outcomes and generate results
  • Leadership skills

  • Oral and written communication skills
