Job Title: Automation Engineering Technician

Work Location: Northlake, Illinois (on-site)

Travel Requirement: 0-15%

The Engineering Technician will maintain the optimal performance of automated and robotic systems through efficient implementation, operation, and maintenance. This includes providing immediate troubleshooting and executing corrective actions to rapidly restore equipment and system functionality.

The Technician will support project implementation by performing acceptance testing and providing training, leading to improved equipment uptime and system reliability. This role also involves developing practices and procedures to optimize processes, increase production, enhance quality, and maintain high safety standards.

The Technician will monitor and troubleshoot automated systems both on-site and remotely, implement corrective actions, and propose long-term improvements. Success requires strong collaboration with plant operations, maintenance, and staff.

Essential Job Functions:




  • Troubleshoot downtime for robotic and automated systems, and execute corrections.
  • Analyze performance data proactively and recommend data driven upgrades that demonstrate a high level of investment return.
  • Serve as a technical resource for the manufacturing staff and supervision regarding automation and robotics.
  • Use new technology to provide enhanced insight into operational and equipment challenges and propose solutions to those situations.
  • Coordinate with Operations, EH&S, and Engineering to improve systems through CAPEX, 5S, Six Sigma, and Lean methodologies. Work on Continuous Improvement projects. Areas of emphasis include cost reduction, capacity/cycle time improvements, energy and waste reduction, and process reliability.
  • Modify existing Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID's), or electrical schematics.
  • Initiate, track, and close, through Management of Change (MOC) best practices, all activities with focus on Pre-Start-up Safety Review (PSSR), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) with full respect to Process Safety Management (PSM) principles.



Required Education and Experience:




  • Engineering or Technology degree preferred, or related certification/experience
  • 3+ years work experience in manufacturing, engineering, or technology comparable technical roles, chemical manufacturing experience desirable
  • Instrumentation specification and configurations (required)
  • MS Office Suite (required)
  • AutoCAD knowledge (required)
  • PLC Systems (Rockwell StudioLogix5000) and Architecture (required)
  • Travel requirement: 0-15%



Pay Range: $75,000 - $90,000
