Job Summary
This is a grant-funded position for supporting extension programming and applied research. Continued employment is contingent on the continuation of extramural funding. The official salary range for this role will be $35,000-50,000. The GreenUP Alabama program is a five-year project (12/2024-12/2029).

This position will be located on campus at Auburn University, Auburn, AL.

The Alabama Cooperative Extension System seeks an Instructional Outreach Program Coordinator. This individual will plan, coordinate, deliver, and manage Extension educational services and programs to accomplish the GreenUP Alabama goals and objectives. Specifically, this includes education, evaluation, community assistance and quality management. Please check full details about roles and responsibilities in the sections below.
The Instructional Outreach Program Coordinator position will be housed with the Alabama Cooperative Extension System ( ACES) Forestry, Wildlife and Environment team, and specifically with the urban and community forestry group. The coordinator will also work collaboratively across multiple Extension teams, departments, and nonprofits for developing and implementing impactful programing and tree planting projects. This is a 100% Extension position focusing on developing a strong network with key stakeholders in Alabama and capacity building as a team player.

Essential Functions

  • Regular communication with cities, municipalities, volunteers and stakeholders to promote the project and its objectives.
  • Collaboration with municipalities and other stakeholders across the state to plan, organize and successfully deliver tree planting projects to establish sustainable urban forest canopies.
  • Collaboration with stakeholders across the state and program team members to develop and implement workforce development programs in the tree care industry.
  • Development of grant proposals in collaboration with faculty members and field personnel for securing additional extramural funding.
  • Management and coordination of quarterly advisory committee meetings to monitor project progress.
  • Contribute and attend multiple professional meetings throughout the year to promote the program and educate the public on urban forest planting, maintenance and management.
  • Coordination and development of various outreach products such as educational publications, flyers, educational videos, newsletters, blogs, and social media posts using a planned approach.
  • Planning and implementation of multiple educational and networking events throughout the year.
  • Liaison between the US Forest Service Urban and Community Forestry Program and Auburn University for reporting purposes, while assisting with the preparation of program progress reports.
  • Development of a program evaluation plan, and creation of event evaluations.
  • Assistance with the publication of annual program impact reports and sharing with stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
Level I: Bachelor's degree in discipline related to program; no experience required.
Level II: Bachelor's degree in discipline related to program; 2 years of experience in the design, implementation, delivery and management of educational programs/services.

Related Disciplines: forestry, urban forestry, horticulture, or a related field.
Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications


Minimum Skills and Abilities

  • Effective communication and human relation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Ability to efficiently and accurately maintain records.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally.

Minimum Technology Skills

  • A working knowledge of operating a personal computer, including demonstrated competency using Microsoft Office software.
  • Some prior experience with GIS software will be valuable.

Minimum License and Certifications
A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain one prior to selection.

Desired Qualifications

  • International Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist or able to certify within 6 months.
  • Experience in the design, implementation, delivery, and management of educational programs.
