Job Summary: WEST is looking for one technician to conduct 12 months of avian use surveys at two proposed energy developments in lower Michigan. This position is ideally suited for a candidate living near the Thumb area of Michigan. No housing is provided, but mileage will be reimbursed at a standard rate. Avian use surveys for all species of birds will be the main focus, but checks and upkeep of bat acoustic monitoring stations will be also required. There is also a possibility of raptor nest survey work in the spring as well as helping with other projects in the region. Successful candidates should be comfortable working in a rural setting, working well both independently and with others, and following field data entry and safety protocols. Proficiency with bird identification or previous experience conducting avian use surveys is preferred. The average workweek will be approximately 32 hours, though there may be weeks requiring shorter or longer hours depending on seasonal objectives.
