STV's Rail Transportation Group is seeking a Civil Engineering Specialist with a minimum of two years of relevant experience to join our team in Atlanta or Acworth, GA. This role will support civil engineering and construction projects under our General Engineering Consulting contract for a major railroad client.

As a key team member, you will be responsible for reviewing engineering plans and contractor submittals for public infrastructure projects, collaborating with agencies and engineers, and serving as a technical resource for field construction staff to ensure compliance with railway standards and operational safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engineering Plan & Submittal Review - Evaluate plans and construction submittals for projects occurring on or adjacent to the railroad right-of-way, ensuring compliance with approved plans and railway specifications to protect railroad infrastructure and train operations.

  • Field Support & Coordination - Work closely with field engineers and construction personnel to provide on-site support, ensuring contractors adhere to approved plans and specifications.

  • Construction Estimation - Develop accurate construction estimates to support construction managers and engineering staff.

  • Track Design Reviews - Assist in track design reviews on behalf of the railroad client.

  • Technical Documentation & Approvals - Review shop drawings, respond to contractor requests for information, and conduct technical evaluations of Preliminary Engineering (PE) and construction submittals through to final review.

  • Project Coordination & Communication - Interface with Operations Engineers, participate in project meetings and conference calls, take minutes, provide recommendations, and offer guidance on technical issues.

  • Construction Means & Methods Reviews - Assess falsework, substructure, superstructure, and shoring installation plans and calculations to ensure safety and feasibility.

  • Process Improvement & Multitasking - Efficiently manage multiple project types and submittal reviews while maintaining high standards of accuracy and thoroughness.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Construction and/or structural coursework preferred).

  • Minimum of two years of experience in construction or civil engineering.

  • Strong understanding of state and local engineering specifications and standards.

  • Proficiency in written and verbal communication, with excellent interpersonal skills.

  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Experience with MicroStation and/or AutoCAD is preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in railway bridge or track design.

  • Background in general civil engineering design, such as drainage, roadway, or land development.

  • Certifications such as OSHA 10, Confined Space, or Construction Safety and Health.

Compensation Range:

$61,760.55 - $82,347.40
