Job Description:Responsible for the development, coordination and continuous improvement of the John Muir Health language access program that ensures effective communication for patients with Limited English proficiency and other communication barriers as well as their caregivers following promising practices and with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include:
*development and maintenance of appropriate policies and procedures around language access to ensure compliance with existing laws and regulations
*research, negotiation and oversight of contract with all program vendors
*stewardship of program budget
*development and oversight of a comprehensive language access strategy that includes:
oa qualified employee interpreters (QEI) program
oa bi-lingual employee program
ophone interpreter services
ovideo interpreter services
oin-person interpreter services
oeducation and training for staff and leaders about the role and function of Interpreter Services
*research of interpreter service promising practices to continuously improve the service to patients with communication barriers and their caregivers

Language access serves all inpatient and ambulatory areas, including off-site locations within the John Muir Health system network. Besides providing interpretation in-person, telephonically or via video, the program also provides consultation on culturally appropriate patient education materials and acts as a point of contract to resolve patient issues related to communication access.

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree, Business Administration- Preferred or

  • Associates, Business Administration - Preferred or Related Field - Preferred

Experience:

  • 3 - 5 Years Interpreter Services - Required in Healthcare Setting or Equivalent Experience or related field

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and one or more languages

Certifications/Licensures:

  • CHI - Certified Healthcare Interpreter by Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCH) - Preferred or

  • CMI - Certified Medical Interpreter by Nation Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters(NBCMI) - Preferred or other healthcare interpreting certificates

Skills:

  • Fluency in spoken and written English and one or more languages; familiarity with various cultures in a healthcare setting.

  • Excellent communication, customer service and organizational skills.

  • Experience with maintaining confidentiality and performing complaint resolution - Preferred.

  • Computer skills and familiarity with Windows, Excel, Microsoft application systems

  • Knowledge of medical terminology and health care systems - Preferred

  • Exemplary interpersonal skills and ability to interact with individuals and groups in a wide variety of highly sensitive and diplomatic situations.

Temporary position expected to last until May 2025

Work Shift:Exempt Days (Mon-Fri) (United States of America)

Pay Range:

$80,787.00 - $121,180.00 Salary
Offer amounts are based on demonstrated/relevant experience and/or licensure.
Pay will be adjusted to the local market if hired outside of the Bay Area.
Note: Positions at JMH which are exempt (not eligible for overtime) under the level of Manager are listed as hourly for compensation purposes on this posting. The work shift will contain the word 'exempt' on it.
