Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Lab Tech Assistant for the Psychology department within the School of Arts and Sciences. Under general guidance and direction, the ideal candidate will provide basic level laboratory and/or technical support duties involving the application of scientific research methods and techniques.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Follows the research established guidelines collects data and performs the basic tasks required by the assigned project.
  • Follows the principal investigator's procedures and protocols, performs the routine and standard repetitive research procedures required by project.
  • Collects and completes basic samples and tests. Prepares materials for tests, performs non-complex tests, examines the outcomes and notifies supervisor of deviations form testing methods.
  • Follows preapproved guidelines and procedures, carries out structured interviews or surveys, via phone or electronically. Collects and compiles survey results.
  • Prepares basic information for reports.
  • Assists in the daily lab operations, runs routine experiments based on the established guidelines and PI discussions. Reports back to the supervisor regularly.
  • Performs standard sample and record collection and organizes results.
  • Provides routine technical support relative to scientific research work or projects of the laboratory.
  • Gathers reference information by searching library or other resources.
  • Follows standard and established data storage safety protocols utilized in the laboratory.
  • Guides or instructs other laboratory employees/users in completion of above duties.
  • Follows established safety protocols and keeps necessary documentations.
  • Obeys the standard operation guidelines already implemented by the supervisor and the lab.
  • Reports deviations form the rules to supervisor.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree.

  • Familiarity with computational modeling, strong programming skills.
