Position Overview:
The Distribution Maintenance Technician I is responsible for the operation, maintenance, and repair of the Neenah Water Utility Distribution System. This role involves specialized work in water distribution, excavation safety, and AMI metering systems. The technician must troubleshoot complex issues, work independently or in small teams, and effectively communicate with contractors and customers. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to manage challenging situations are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintains and repairs water mains, services, valves, hydrants, and system components.
  • Inspects water distribution projects for compliance with regulations.
  • Records work performed in the GIS database.
  • Investigates plumbing leaks and high/low consumption issues.
  • Locates, repairs, and adjusts manholes, curb boxes, and valve boxes.
  • Turns water services on/off as needed.
  • Uses leak detection devices to locate main and plumbing leaks.
  • Conducts cross-connection and sump pump inspections for compliance.
  • Collects water samples for bacteriological testing.
  • Operates excavation, leak detection, and distribution equipment.
  • Reads, installs, tests, and repairs water meters per PSC regulations.
  • Performs general building, grounds, and equipment maintenance.
  • Participates in weekend/holiday on-call rotation.
  • Responds to on-call duties 24/7 as needed.
  • Repairs city streets, sidewalks, and curbs.
  • Performs landscaping, reseeding, and sodding.
  • Conducts hydrant flushing and determines fire flows per NFPA guidelines.

Qualifications:
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Three years of experience in the maintenance or installation of water distribution systems, heavy construction, or meter reading.
  • Other: Valid Wisconsin driver's license, Class B CDL, Completed Excavation Competent Person, Forklift Operation, and Cross-Connection Control Inspection training, Wisconsin Municipal Waterworks Operator License with Subclass D
Salary and Benefits:
  • Salary Range: $52,395.20 - $62,649.60, depending on experience.
    • Salary range reflects base to midpoint of the pay scale. Offers above midpoint require Council approval.
