Your Role With Us:The Manager of Safety and Building Operations is responsible for the following functions: Management Responsibilities: Ensures staff is effectively engaged in all functional operations through appropriate communication of expectations, timely performance feedback, inclusion in decisions affecting them, and by providing support that meets their needs in fulfilling assigned duties. Responsible for the recruitment, retention and training of employees serving this function. Resolves complaints through conflict resolution process, rewards, recognizes and disciplines as appropriate and in line with the organization's policies and procedures.Utilizing Lean management methods, responsible for all aspects of the implementation, continued execution, and effectiveness of Salem Health safety compliance & industrial hygiene program under the direction of the Facilities Director.Responsible for the design and delivery of safety training for new and existing employees, volunteers and contractors for all safety compliance programs related to healthcare. Includes creating computer-based learning modules for new and refresher training.Responsible for maintaining the hospital's decontamination team in coordination with emergency management, engineering and emergency department personnel.Lean and Continuous Improvement - Creates a culture and strategic roadmap for continuous improvement.Responsible for Coordination with Environment of Care (EOC) Chapter Leaders:EOC meeting preparation: organize meeting agenda, ensure timely chapter reports outs, documentation and meeting minutes.Review, be familiar with, EOC, elements of performance requirements and help develop strategies for compliance to those standards.Coordinate any implementation of new standards and/or requirements, review prospectus' and other materials which drive survey hot topic issues.Serve as a resource in EOC standards and compliance.Responsible for Leading Environment of Care (EOC) Inspection Team:Run a multi-discipline team inspecting for TJC standard violations across the Salem Health organization.Prepare inspection reports and trend data showing overall compliance and deficiencies.Develop plans to improve overall EOC TJC readiness targeting gaps in compliance.Conduct EOC tracer audits testing Salem Health readiness to EOC standards.Supervisory Relationships: Safety AnalystSafety Clerk Total Rewards Offerings: Salem Health's comprehensive benefits package prioritizes your mental and physical health, financial stability, family obligations and professional growth.Relocation assistance available for qualified positionsFull comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plansBasic and voluntary life insuranceShort and long-term disabilityLive Well Wellness ProgramEmployee Assistance Program (EAP) 401(K) retirement plan with employer contributions.Generous paid time off (PTO) accrual and holiday pay Onsite fitness center with 24/7 badge accessEducation assistance programPublic service loan forgiveness (PSLF) eligible employer https://studentaid.gov/Food and drink discounts in the cafeteriaImpressive discounts offered by Nike, Adidas, Carhartt and othersBackground/Expertise:Experience:Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Industrial Hygiene, Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety or regulatory compliance with preference in a healthcare setting.Minimum of five (3) years departmental supervision experience including scheduling and budgeting.Demonstrated experience in training, research and professional presentation required.Experience in hazardous waste management required.Safety committee experience preferred.Education:Bachelor's degree required; focus on science, engineering, health, hygiene or safety preferred.Credentials:Certified Healthcare Safety Professional Required within 18 months of hire. Eligibility requirements for the CHSP through the International Board for Certification Services and Management (IBFCSM):Documentation of six years of relevant job experience and college education combined with a minimum of two years of relevant experience. Each 30 semester hours of earned college credits is equivalent to one year of experience. IBFCSM defines relevant experience is defined as any job or professional experience from working, consulting, or providing education and training in a field related to the certification scope sought. Exam blueprints provide additional information on job tasks and professional knowledge requirements for each IBFCSM scope of certification. Special knowledge, skills & abilities:Must have a broad knowledge of a variety of safety, and environmental regulatory and performance standards.Expert level ability in the recognition, evaluation and control of hazards in the workplace.Working knowledge of The Joint Commission hospital accreditation process, specifically in the Environment of Care (EOC) preferred.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Strong knowledge of Microsoft business products (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).Must possess analytical and problem-solving skills as well as the ability to work and communicate effectively (tact and collaboration) with all levels of management staff, physicians, patients, and the public.Requires outstanding ability to work independently toward general results. Often no precedent for and little help in carrying out assigned tasks. Must originate, plan, adapt, invent and contrive to accomplish tasks.Clear effective communication skills. The ability to conduct instructional sessions for department and all hospital staff.
