Job Summary:

A full-time (1.0 FTE) Research Services Laboratory Science Profession position at the Intermediate level is available in the field of genomic mosaicism. The research group is located within the Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine, in the Section of Clinical Genetics and Metabolism. This position will be responsible for performing a broad array of genetic and molecular assays and techniques in the area of genetics, genomics, and molecular biology. This work will be part of essential laboratory support tasks and include experiments performed independently and under the supervision of the principal investigator and other laboratory members. In addition, this position will be responsible for managerial aspects of the Breuss laboratory, support of the Principal Investigator's (PI) scientific administration, and the mentoring of junior researchers. Key Responsibilities / Duties: Laboratory Tasks
- DNA/RNA preparation from primary human tissues (e.g. blood, saliva, semen, postmortem or surgical tissues), primary cells, or immortalized cell lines.
- Standard and advanced molecular biology and genetic techniques, such as molecular cloning, PCR, ddPCR, library preparations, and analytical methods (e.g. gel electrophoresis).
- Maintenance and experimentation in cell culture systems, including expansion of cell lines, cryopreservation, and routine mycoplasma testing.
- Maintaining a detailed, accurate, and current experimental record.
- Data organization and analysis.
- Active participation in laboratory meetings and journal clubs.
Laboratory Management
- Manage daily laboratory operations: ordering, inventory, cleaning, preparation of reagents; maintain laboratory records and databases and ensure laboratory compliance.
- Assist in the review and implementation of lab support policies, practices and programs to meet organizational, operations, and management needs.
- Processing, storage, and tracking of biological specimens.
- Coordinate and execute shipping and receiving of biological specimen sampling kits.
- Develop, maintain, and revise standard operating procedures.
- Train onboarding scientists.
- Supervise junior scientists.
- Coordinate with collaborators.
Support of PI's Scientific Administration
- Assist the principal investigator in preparation of manuscripts and grant applications.
- Support the PI in the financial administration of the laboratory (e.g., expense reports, budgeting, supervision of active financial accounts).

Qualifications:
|
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
- One (1) year professional level research experience
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in biology, molecular biology, chemistry, genetics or related field
- Two (2) years of experience in an experimental or wet laboratory
- Laboratory management skills.
- Training in working with and organizing human samples.
- Training in next generation sequencing library preparation.
- Training in cell culture techniques.
- Experience in mentoring students/staff.
- Experience working on command line and the analysis of omics data using scripting languages.
- Experience with grant-writing or manuscript-writing (as part of a team or an individual).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Willingness to work with an array of biological samples, including blood, semen, and postmortem tissues.
- Willingness to work with laboratory mice and primary cell culture.
- Willingness to learn about and work with data bases, command line, scripting languages.
- Excellent organizational and documentation skills.
- Detail-oriented and responsive.
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a team environment.

Anticipated Pay Range:
|
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $48,970 - $62,290 The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level. Your total compensation goes beyond the number on your paycheck.
