Summary of Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Cell Line Development group for 10 to 12 weeks this summer. The Cell Line Development group functions in generating candidate molecule-expressing cell lines to support MacroGenics' clinical pipeline. Our team members work collaboratively across and within the department to troubleshoot and generate data. As a team, we work together closely to move projects forward and foster an inclusive environment to share ideas and opinions.

As a Cell Line Development intern, you will have the opportunity to learn about early-stage drug development, work with mammalian cells to perform cell culture techniques like transfection and fed-batch, and help optimize our expression platform and fed-batch processes. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, possesses a strong background in the sciences, is respectful of employees of diverse backgrounds and viewpoints, has experience with wet lab benchwork, is adaptable to change, and can successfully work independently as well as with others.

Responsibilities and Job Duties



  • Use aseptic technique to conduct mammalian cell culture work for the generation of pools and clones, and cell culture maintenance.
  • Prepare medium, feed, and supplements for cell culture experimentation.
  • Optimize existing laboratory methods and processes to improve gene expression and fed-batch titers.
  • Utilize laboratory instruments and equipment to analyze cell culture conditions for fed-batch studies.
  • Evaluate, analyze, and compile experimental data to present findings to the team.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory records including experimental procedures, results and conclusions.
  • Adhere to safety protocols to maintain a safe and clean laboratory environment.


Minimum Qualifications

Education, Certifications & Experience



  • Rising Sophomore, Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field
  • Experience with wet lab benchwork (in a lab course or a university lab)
  • Must be able to work onsite for 40 hours/week, Monday through Friday, for 10-12 weeks

Additional Information

The hourly rate of pay for this position is $21.50. For non-exempt roles, and according to applicable regulations, there may be the possibility for overtime pay. Eligible intern employees may participate in the 401(k) plan with employer match and may receive the company holiday benefit if the holiday falls on a regularly scheduled workday. An intern will accrue one hour of sick leave for every 30 hours of working time. Interns are responsible for their own travel, housing, and living expenses.

The pay rate range is described in good faith, and the Company believes is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting depending on the candidate's experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other factors permitted by law. The Company may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and this range may be modified in the future. No amount is considered to be wages or compensation until such amount is earned, vested, and determinable under the terms and conditions of the applicable policies and plans. The amount and availability of any bonus, commission, benefits, or any other form of compensation and benefits that are allocable to a particular employee remains in the Company's sole discretion unless and until paid and may be modified at the Company's sole discretion, consistent with the law.
