JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Penn State Great Valley is searching for a full time Group Leader, Maintenance Worker Utility to join their team. Duties include:

  • Oversee the work of the Janitorial Workers and Maintenance Worker Utility personnel to ensure assigned areas are maintained in a clean and habitable condition
  • Assist in orienting employees to their assigned work areas; instruct new personnel on methods and procedures; ensure that new cleaning methods or operational procedures are being followed
  • Report room and building conditions, need for equipment, supplies, etc., to supervisor
  • Report repairs needed in and about buildings; note and report safety hazards, equipment failures, and need for repairs
  • Order janitorial supplies, check when received; distribute to designated areas and control usage of supplies
  • Oversee and operate various types of scrubbing, buffing, and shampooing equipment such as scrubbing machine, vacuum, wet-dry pick-up machine, etc., and hand tools, as required; sweep, scrub, strip, seal, wax, and shampoo various types of floors and floor coverings and furniture
  • Remove, replace incandescent bulbs, fluorescent tubes and starters, shades and covers (all from permanent fixtures), venetian and roller blinds, window screens, wall hangings, etc.
  • Assist with the removal of accumulated waste and debris from buildings, as required
  • Oversee and coordinate moving, relocation, etc., of furniture, equipment, supplies, and construction materials; oversee and assist in unloading incoming materials and moving to storage locations
  • Operate motor vehicles to transport materials, equipment, and personnel between building work sites, etc.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and orderly condition; report unusual conditions to supervisor
  • Shovel snow and chop ice; spread cinders, sand, and other anti-skid materials on walks and driveways using power and/or hand tools, as required
  • As required, clean glass, mirrors, venetian blinds, light fixtures, screens, railings, toilet fixtures, etc.; clean restrooms and stock dispensers
  • Lock and unlock doors when necessary; check windows and door locks
  • Maintain entrances to buildings in a clean condition, as necessary
  • Set-up and clean-up chairs, tables, stages, platforms, cultural events, sporting events, AV & Satellite set-ups, bleachers, lecterns, etc., at various campus locations for banquets, plays, and other scheduled events

Job Requirements: Requires the use of simple writing, adding, subtracting, whole numbers and the carrying out of instructions; and the use of fixed gauges and direct reading instruments and devices in which interpretation is not required. 6 to 9 months of effective experience.

Work Schedule: Monday-Thursday 2:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m., Friday 1:00 p.m.-9:30 p.m.

Days Off:Saturday, Sunday

NOTE: THIS POSITION REQUIRES THAT YOU OPERATE A MOTOR VEHICLE AS A PART OF YOUR JOB DUTIES. A VALID DRIVER`S LICENSE AND SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF A MOTOR VEHICLE RECORDS CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED IN ADDITION TO STANDARD BACKGROUND CHECKS.
