THE POSITION
-
The Department of Conservation & Natural Resources is looking to hire a seasonal Equipment Operator B for Shawnee State Park. This role involves proficiently operating specialized machinery and vehicles, particularly those with a gross vehicle weight of 32,000 pounds or greater. In addition to operating equipment, the position also entails performing maintenance tasks and engaging in various manual labor activities that support the overall functioning of Shawnee State Park.

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will be responsible for operating various vehicles and equipment utilized in general construction, maintenance, and groundskeeping tasks, which include snow removal and salting or cindering activities. You will handle tractor-mounted grass and brush mowers, dump trucks, backhoes, skid steers, excavators, and front-end loaders with a bucket capacity of less than three cubic yards, along with any necessary attachments for maintenance operations.
You will conduct safety checks, perform preventative maintenance, and inspect equipment before use, while also keeping detailed records of operations. Your duties will extend to operating equipment for demolition projects and resource management initiatives. When not engaged in operating vehicles or machinery, you will perform manual labor, which includes loading and unloading trucks, executing minor repairs, and assisting maintenance personnel with more significant repairs.
Additionally, you will carry out general maintenance tasks across all park facilities and structures, which may involve building gates and fences, painting, staining, replacing picnic grills and tables, and installing or updating park signage. Your responsibilities will also include litter collection, restroom cleaning, cabin maintenance, painting, and garbage disposal. You will perform minor repairs and preventive maintenance on equipment, ensuring that all machinery is clean and serviced.
Grounds maintenance activities such as mowing, repairing berms, clearing brush, and snow removal will also be part of your responsibilities. You will dig trenches and assist in the installation or repair of waterlines, sewer lines, electric lines, and drainpipes, as well as excavate foundations or footers for small construction projects. This position requires you to travel independently to fulfill your duties, necessitating the operation of a park vehicle on state or local roadways.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
- Seasonal Full-time employment without benefits.
- Shift hours and days vary due to operational need, with a 30-minute lunch
- Weekends, holidays and all shifts as needed at 37.5 hours per week

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
- One year of experience as an Equipment Operator A (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
- Two years of experience in the operation of heavy construction and specialized maintenance equipment used at this level with a gross vehicle weight of 32,001 pounds or more: or
- Any equivalent combination of experience or training.
Special Requirement:
- This position requires possession of a valid Class C Pennsylvania driver's license.
Conditions of Employment:
- This position requires a Class A Commercial Driver's License.
