Description and Requirements

Lenovo is the fastest growing workstation manufacturer on the planet and is at the forefront of mobile & desktop computing innovation, leveraging AI to drive smarter products and solutions for our customers. We are seeking a talented and motivated Data Engineering Intern to join our dynamic cloud software team. You will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects, collaborate with top engineers and gain hands-on experience in AI development and the growing world of computer workstations. This role is based in Morrisville, NC and will require onsite presence.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines for AI and machine learning applications.
  • Assist in data ingestion, transformation, and storage for structured and unstructured data.
  • Ensure data integrity, consistency, and quality across multiple sources.
  • Collaborate with AI engineers to prepare and optimize datasets for training and inference.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance, failures, and bottlenecks.
  • Optimize data storage, indexing, and retrieval using relational and NoSQL databases.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to improve data infrastructure scalability and reliability.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Pursuing or recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with data processing libraries (e.g., Pandas, NumPy)
  • Proficiency in SQL with experience in relational databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL.
  • Familiarity with ETL frameworks and data pipeline tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Prefect, Dagster).
  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and experience working with OLAP systems.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Prior internship or work experience in Data Engineering, AI Engineering, or Big Data is a plus.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure) and cloud data services (BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake).
  • Experience with NoSQL databases (MongoDB, DynamoDB) and distributed storage systems (HDFS, Delta Lake).
  • Experience working with version control tools (Git, Bitbucket) and collaboration platforms (Jira, Confluence).
  • Familiarity with vector databases (e.g., FAISS, Pinecone) and AI-related data workflows (Embeddings, LangChain, RAG, Prompt Engineering).
  • Familiarity with language translations (French, Spanish, etc)
