The UC Irvine School of Medicine Department of Physiology & Biophysics is dedicated to conducting innovative, cutting-edge research, engaging in high-level service, and providing excellent educational opportunities and mentoring to students, postdoctoral fellows, and researchers in the discipline of physiology and biophysics. We are a vibrant community of scientific investigators actively engaged in innovative research, discovery, training, and teaching. As part of the mission of UC Irvine's School of Medicine, we provide faculty research, training programs for undergraduate and graduate students, and outreach functions.


Your Role on the Team

Under the direction of the Chief Administrative Officer, the incumbent is responsible for the financial management of assigned federal and private contracts and grants as well as other extramural funds, private gifts/grants, opportunity funds, Chancellor's funds, training grants and set-up funds that support various research and instructional programs including the management of the graduate program finance within the Department of Physiology and Biophysics and Vaccine Research Center. The incumbent is responsible for the accounts, including fiscal solvency, financial compliance, monthly PI reporting projections, monthly reconciliation, review and analysis of expenditures, and financial reports to sponsoring agencies. The incumbent has independent decision-making authority, policy analysis and interpretation, and independent problem-solving responsibilities that require ongoing interaction with all levels of university agency faculty and staff.


What It Takes to be Successful

Required:

  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local, sponsor and institutional regulations, policies, and guidelines.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of transactions.
  • Ability to perform moderately complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Demonstrated competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports.
  • Ability to maintain independent judgment; strong organization; communication skills; and a customer service focus.
  • Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all areas of research administration.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of generally accepted accounting, fiscal and reporting principles.
  • Knowledge of grant funding processes, procedures and techniques.
  • Writing skills to draft persuasive text for variety of audiences.
  • 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of UCI accounting principles and procedures and UCI accounting documents and online financial systems.
  • Working knowledge of Federal granting agencies' policies.
  • Working knowledge of UC purchasing and reimbursement systems and policies and procedures.
