Advancement plays a crucial role in furthering the mission of Stony Brook University by fostering meaningful engagement and raising funds for the university's most important initiatives. This 24-month program will comprise of 3 - 4 rotations among the different teams within Advancement. These rotations will be approximately 6 months and assignments may vary in length depending on scope of work and business need. With diverse projects across essential business areas, participants will receive strategic developmental tasks, coaching, feedback, and specialized training. Participants will be provided with immersive experiences ensuring they gain valuable insights and experiences and understand the business of Advancement. The areas of focus can include but are not limited to: Alumni Relations, Operations, Marketing, Data Services, and Development. The ideal candidate will possess strong written and verbal communication skills, intellectual curiosity, leadership qualities, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. As a team member, you'll have opportunities to deliver presentations to Advancement leaders, showcasing your expertise and recommendations at the end of each assignment. You'll collaborate closely with colleagues to efficiently execute projects and contribute to our community service initiatives. In this role, you'll play an integral part in fostering a cohesive and productive work environment within your assigned team.
Brief Description of Duties:
- Work day-to-day within rotational assignment.
- This work will be determined by leadership via a formal proposal process. The scope of work will include, but not be limited to, developing functional experience through various project assignments and daily responsibilities, growing your leadership and decision-making skills, gaining cross-functional exposure, and receiving mentorship and/or coaching from a colleague within your assigned rotation.
- Support broader department projects.
- This includes, but is not limited to, events assistance, short term assignments outside of your rotation, and specialized assignments designed to explore your career interests.
- Work with the Associate Director, Advancement Leadership & Training directly on internal professional and career development skills.
- Participate in training to build on soft and hard skills including but not limited to communication, leadership, time management, diversity, and inclusion. Complete and present a capstone project at the end of your program. Attend professional workshops and networking opportunities as time allows. Create a plan to build an extensive professional network within the organization.
- Other duties as assigned.
Special Notes: The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non-Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
