SUMMARY: Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, seeks a clinical neurophysiologist for the epilepsy surgery program. Clinical responsibilities include participation in patient data analysis, preparation and participation in operative planning, intraoperative and postoperative neurophysiology, and analysis and planning for subsequent surgical treatment. Assistance in the OR for intraoperative procedures may also include
SSEP,
EEG,
EMG, motor mapping, cranial nerve mapping, and movement disorders surgery. Candidate should have a strong desire to help build a comprehensive clinical program and support affiliated research efforts.
The faculty member will support the Department of Neurosurgery in its clinical and academic mission, the
RWJ Medical School and RWJBarnabas Health Neurosurgical service line. |

Minimum Education and Experience |
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
Required:
* Doctorate degree (Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D.)
* 3+ years postdoctoral research experience with intracranial
EEG and/or
MRI data
* History of peer-reviewed publications using intracranial
EEG and/or
MRI methods
* Registered through the American Board of Registration of Electroenephalographic and Evoked Potential technologists (
ABRET) as an
EEG Technologist (R.
EEG T.) and Continuous Long Term Video Monitoring (
CLTM)
* Eligible to sit for NeuroAnalyst-
CLTM Exam through
ABRET and obtains certification within 12 months of start date |

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities |
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Extensive review of the epilepsy history, non-invasive and invasive neurophysiology data, associated video recordings and evaluation of seizure semiology, structural/functional imaging, and proposal of a working hypotheses for surgical planning.
2. Assist surgical planning for epilepsy invasive monitoring by making preliminary stereoEEG plans of the implantation trajectories.
3. Aid in the surgical implantation process including choosing appropriately sized electrodes and inventory management.
4. Assemble a detailed report of the surgical implantation process
5. Perform postoperative reconstruction of electrode locations within a few hours after implantation
6. Provide detailed evaluation regarding the anatomic origin and distribution of epileptic activity resulting from the patient's intracranial investigation and communicate to the neurosurgery and neurology teams.
7. Support the electrical cortical stimulation procedure through stereoEEG electrodes for reliable functional mapping and delineation of the seizure onset zone, by assisting procedural planning using detailed 3D-navigated electrode implantation maps and consult on stimulation settings
8. Contribute to the training and co-mentoring of neurologists, neurosurgeons and neuroscientists in extracranial and intracranial
EEG interpretation
9. When asked, contribute to surgical planning and/or intraoperative neurophysiology during movement disorders surgery.
10. When asked, contribute to surgical planning for MR-guided focused ultrasound surgery for movement disorders.
11. Maintain compliance with all applicable State, Federal,
UNOS,
CMS, and Joint Commission laws, rules, regulations and requirements and create policies and procedures that ensure compliance for the programs with the foregoing.
12. Attend departmental and interdepartmental physician meetings, morbidity and mortality conferences, quality improvement process, selection meetings and/or other meetings deemed as appropriate.
13. Complete required medical documentation for patients' charts in a timely manner according to hospital bylaws.
14. Provide accurate and detailed reports to attendings in a timely manner.
15. Provide accurate and complete information required for billing and coding.
16. Collaborate with surgeons, members of the surgical team, nurses, nurse practitioners, ancillary staff and other physicians and promotes a cohesive team environment.
17. Maintain effective working relationships with attending physicians and neurophysiologists outside of the Department, as well as other Hospital department staff and Administration.
18. Respect others' time, including punctual arrival to meetings and concluding meetings as scheduled.
19. Demonstrate thorough knowledge and adherence to Hospital policies and procedures.
