Description of primary duties and responsibilities:
Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The primary purpose of the division of Strategic Enrollment and Student Success is to ensure university representatives interact with members of the higher education community and government officials. Strategic Enrollment and Student Success staff ensures the university is providing effective and efficient services through collaboration with college and campus staff, including deans, faculty, and student services personnel, as well as community stakeholders, to design and deliver high quality, innovative, and flexible support services to military-connected students.

Primary Purpose of the Position:

Serves as one of four Veteran Certifying Officials for Fayetteville State University's main campus. Assist VA students/dependents in applying for educational benefits. Responsible for interpreting and explaining VA regulations and analyzing how VA policy changes impact FSU's policies and procedures to design and implement solutions for organization and processing of VA benefits. Provides excellent customer service to support Bronco military-connected students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for educating, advising, providing guidance and clarification to all veterans and their dependents on VA education benefits, serving as the University expert relative to VA students, oversees the processing of forms and benefits accurately, counsels students on FSU policies and procedures pertaining to admission, and registration and the enrollment process. Ensures accurate and timely certification of student veterans for a wide range of education benefits programs available to veterans and their dependents to include (but not limited to) Post 9/11 GI Bill, Montgomery GI Bill ( MGIB-AD and MGIB-SR), Reserve Education Assistance Program ( REAP/Chapter 1607), Survivors' and Dependents' Education Assistance. Communicates with military-connected students using VA education benefits about the processes that are applicable to their individual situation.

Responsible for ensuring compliance with federal regulations as they pertain to the United States Department of Veterans' Affairs educational benefits by preparing the university for auditor visits and ensuring that the University has no audit findings during routine audits by federal and state agencies. Ensures compliance by maintaining communication between the main campus and the University's off-campus veteran certifying office at Fort Bragg, and by acting as the liaison between FSU and state and federal Veterans' Affairs agencies, and between the military student success center and FSU's admission, financial aid, registrar, student accounts and academic departments.
Must be able to certify VA students using the VA ONCE database supplied and maintained by the Department of Veteran Affairs. Additionally, must ensure that all center staff has access to and are trained to use the VA ONCE database.
Remains current on curriculum changes and new curriculum offering, ensuring that staff keep student records updated accordingly and that the university reports changes to the VA in a timely manner. Remains current on changes in academic policies and procedures, and reviews catalog changes with the University registrar and communicates with state agencies all new curriculum and changes made to existing programs.
Supports Director with managing and supervising VA work study students. Supports Director with the day-to-day operations and management of the military student success center in Bronco Square. May assist with event planning and programmatic support necessary to military student success.
Oversees record maintenance by maintaining records of VA students and making records available for inspection, retaining files of VA paperwork submitted and records of academic progress, student curriculum changes etc, maintaining VA regulated records schedule (three years following the student's last date of attendance) and ensuring that records are secure to maintain the privacy of the student.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Knowledge skills and abilities:
Excellent written, oral and presentation skills.
Collaboration - Must be able to work effectively with others to accomplish unit's goals and to identify and resolve problems.
Demonstrated decisiveness (ability to make decisions on time and to take action independently) and judgment (ability to weigh all alternatives and make logical assumptions to make reasonable and sound decisions).

Instructional ability (instruct and train employees and students by providing information, appropriate procedures, practices and policies as they pertain to VA benefits.
Supervision-Ability to manage work and performance of employees.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution;
Experience working in a college setting
Working knowledge of computer programs;
