About the Job

Duties and Responsibilities Contribute to the mission of the Liu lab to elucidate the roles of mitochondria in the development of cardiac and muscle diseases.

Primary duties include:

90% experimental work to support ongoing and new projects
* Mitochondrial isolation and biochemical assays
* Cell culture and transfection, immunoblotting
* Sectioning, immunohistochemistry, and imaging
* Developing and optimizing new protocols
* Data analysis

10% general responsibilities
* Maintaining a clean, safe, and organized workplace
* Maintaining accurate records
* Providing as-needed, hands-on support and training to other lab members
* Fostering a collegial and inclusive workplace environment

Qualifications

All required qualifications must be included in the application materials

Required Qualifications:
* BA/BS in the Life Sciences (e.g., Molecular Biology, Genetics, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Biology, Neuroscience, Physiology)
* Willingness to handle mice and mouse tissues
* Motivation and ability to learn unfamiliar or new techniques

Preferred Qualifications:
* Experience with the following:
* Basic techniques in molecular biology (e.g., PCR, qPCR, cloning)
* Techniques in protein biochemistry and related procedures (e.g., immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry, tissue sectioning)
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in a team
* Ability to eventually work independently over time with training
* Familiarity with basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

About the Department

The Department of Integrative Biology and Physiology's research centers on integrative systems biology of the heart and vasculature, including the close linkages among cardiovascular diseases and obesity, diabetes and metabolism at the whole animal level. The department is ideally positioned to bridge basic science discoveries to clinically relevant applications, spanning from academia to our neighbors in the biomedical industry.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $15.25 per hour depending on education/qualifications/experience.
