About the Job

Position: Full-time, 12-month position at $22.17/hr. starting March, 17th. Hours and days of the week of work may vary but will generally be Monday through Friday, 6:00am-2:30pm.

Job Summary: Acts as a lead worker and works with Building and Grounds workers in performance of custodial and grounds duties on the University Campus

Primary Responsibilities: (Percentages needed for each bullet)

85% Lead Custodial and Grounds Duties

  • Acts as a lead worker and works with a crew to perform custodial work at on campus spaces
  • Acts as a lead worker and works with a crew to perform groundskeeping work. Sweep and shovel snow and debris from steps and sidewalks. Remove snow and leaves with shovels, brooms, or gas-powered equipment.
  • Acts as a lead worker and works with a crew to perform sodding, trimming trees, and shrubbery, cutting lawns, raking up leave
  • Acts as a lead worker and works with a crew to scrub floors with heavy-duty industrial scrubbing machines using strong industrial cleaning chemicals. Dry floors with heavy-duty industrial wet and dry pickup vacuums. Run laundering appliances. Mop floors with heavy wet mops. Apply floor seal with the applicator. Maintain polished Terrazzo floors. Sweep floors with a floor brush or treated dust mop. Strip and wax floors, shampoo, and extract carpets.
  • Acts as a lead worker and works with a crew to clean toilet room hard surfaces, floors, walls, windows, mirrors, and fixtures. Polish chrome finishes.
  • Acts as a lead worker and works with a crew to collect wastepaper and recyclables.
  • Assist supervisor in developing individual work schedules for subordinates
  • Receives, distributes, and maintains inventory of custodial supplies and equipment
  • Plans with administrative and custodial supervisors in planning set ups for various classroom and public areas
  • Perform routine custodial and project duties assigned by the supervisor
  • Inspect buildings for cleanliness and condition of building hardware, fixtures, windows, etc.
  • Communication with Supervisor on cleanliness and needed repairs
  • Assist supervisors in ensuring the B&G Workers complete all assigned tasks to standard
  • Work on custodial projects or other duties as assigned

10% Training

  • Assist in conducting on-the-job training of custodial tools and equipment
  • Assures proper storage and preventative maintenance of work equipment and machinery

5% Equipment Repairs

  • Assist with routine care and maintenance of the tools and equipment
  • Works with equipment suppliers to troubleshoot equipment issues
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to lead others in custodial work. Ability to read, write and communicate in English. Experience using standard custodial equipment, dispensing chemicals safely and an understanding of safe custodial practices. A work record clean of disciplinary actions that demonstrate strong performance and positive leadership skills. A minimum of 3 years of applicable custodial work experience. Ability to shovel snow and perform (or learn to perform) project work such as carpet extraction, floor scrubbing, finish application, window washing, deep cleaning, etc. Ability to lift 50 pounds.
  • Must not have any current Disciplinary Action on record.

Essential Qualification:

  • Regular attendance is an essential qualification for this position.

  • Experience in successfully leading others.

Pay Rate: $22.17 per hour

Time Appointment: 75%-100% Appointment
