Position Title: Chef Manager - Saint Edward's School

Salary: $70,000-$75,000/yr/

Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on, growth-minded Chef Manager to oversee the culinary and food service operations at Saint Edward's School in Vero Beach, FL. In this role, you will be responsible for managing the food service operation, including both front-of-house (FOH) and back-of-house (BOH), providing breakfast and lunch service to 600-day students. This position requires at least 5 years of culinary experience and a passion for leading a team in an educational setting. Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the daily culinary operations, ensuring both FOH and BOH run smoothly. Manage all aspects of food service, from inventory management and ordering to preparation and service.
  • Lead menu planning with a focus on seasonal ingredients, local sourcing, and cost-effective purchasing to create nutritious and appealing meals.
  • Manage food costs and implement inventory control strategies to minimize waste while optimizing quality and efficiency.
  • Supervise a team of hourly staff members, ensuring clear communication, training, and effective team collaboration. Provide hands-on support as needed in both the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Promote sustainability initiatives throughout the kitchen and food service operations, focusing on sourcing, waste management, and energy efficiency.
  • Oversee and actively participate in live cooking events and services, ensuring high-quality, timely food presentation.
  • Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, including HACCP standards and ServSafe guidelines.
  • Manage financial performance, including budgeting and tracking expenses, while ensuring the operation meets profitability and quality goals.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students, faculty, staff, and other community members to ensure a positive dining experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of hands-on culinary experience, with a proven track record of managing both FOH and BOH operations.
  • Experience in an educational setting is not required but will be considered a plus.
  • Experience managing a team in a culinary environment, including inventory management, staff training, and performance development.
  • Experience with live or interactive cooking demonstrations and events.
  • Strong knowledge of food cost controls, purchasing, and inventory management.
  • A passion for sustainability and incorporating environmentally conscious practices into food service operations.
  • ServSafe certified (preferred).
