As the Automation & Controls Technician at our plant in St. Ansgar, Iowa, you'll play a key role in keeping our manufacturing operations running safely and efficiently. Your expertise in PLCs, HMIs, and automation networks will help optimize processes, troubleshoot issues, and drive improvements. Who you'll be working with.

You'll collaborate with a diverse team of professionals, including plant operators, maintenance staff, and engineering teams, to ensure smooth and efficient operations. You'll work closely with the Regional Automation Manager and Facility Maintenance Manager, troubleshooting and optimizing control systems. Additionally, you'll interact with vendors and contractors to integrate new automation technologies, travel to other plants for project support, and provide technical guidance to improve processes.

  • Design, program, troubleshoot and support PLC programs controlling process equipment and systems. Automation languages include Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, RS Logix 500 and GE 90/30.
  • Develop, program and support HMI control screens to control the overall operation of equipment and mill process systems. HMI control software includes GE Cimplicity, Rockwell FactoryTalk View.
  • Incorporate into the automation package data acquisition required for statistical analysis. Knowledge of data acquisition thru Kepware software to SQL database tables would be beneficial.
  • Provide check-out and startup commissioning support of new systems and plant equipment. Troubleshoot control system issues on a day-to-day basis.
  • Configure and troubleshoot automation network infrastructure including Ethernet, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Modbus RTU, and other serial communications. Integrate PLC's, VFD's, HMI's and third-party devices into various networks.


Requirements



  • Experience designing and developing control systems with Rockwell Automation, Studio 5000, RSLogix 500/5000, GE Cimplicity, and FactoryTalk View.
  • Strong ability to configure, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical control circuits, including analog/digital wiring and relay logic.
  • Proficiency in reading engineering specifications, schematics, and control narratives.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with operators, plant managers, and vendors.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and improve processes in a manufacturing environment.
  • Willingness to be on-call after hours and provide remote support as needed.
  • Flexibility to travel to other plants, including Canada, for installations and project support.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Knowledge of electrical, instrumentation, and controls theories and best practices.
