Overview

ABOUT THE POSITION

VHB's Metro D.C. team is looking for a Transportation/Traffic Engineer. This role can be based out of our Washington, D.C. or Tysons, VA office.

The selected candidate will work with a team of transportation engineers and planners on a variety of public, private and institutional projects within broad cross-section of markets, including municipal, state agencies, higher education, and federal.

Responsibilities

    Work within a team of professionals in developing transportation engineering, safety, and planning solutions for multimodal transportation projects
  • Perform safety and operational studies
  • Conduct field reviews
  • Perform research and data analysis, including working with large data sets
  • Perform traffic engineering analysis, safety analysis, and operational studies
  • Critically analyze and evaluate transportation improvement alternatives to support planning and engineering projects
  • Prepare conceptual designs, including sign and pavement marking plans in MicroStation
  • Prepare quantity take-offs and cost estimates
  • Research best practices for transportation safety design and policy
  • Prepare written documents, summarize data and analysis, and assemble reports to convey findings and recommendations
  • Provide communications support

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in civil/transportation engineering or related field
  • 1 to 3 years of transportation experience, preferably related to safety
  • Familiarity with national engineering standards, including AASHTO, MUTCD, Highway Capacity Manual, Highway Safety Manual and/or ITE guidance documents. Prior experience with local standards in DC, Virginia, or Maryland is desirable
  • Proficiency in integrating and analyzing data from different sources using ArcGIS or programming languages
  • Proficiency in MS Office tools, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience or proficiency with industry software, including CAD/Microstation, Open Roads Designer, ArcGIS, Synchro, Vissim, HCS, Remix, InDesign, and/or big data analysis tools is a plus
  • EIT certification preferred

Hiring Salary Range - $75,000 - $81,000. However, the final agreed-upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, and experience. In addition, VHB offers a holistic benefits package which can be found here.
