Sr. Cost Accountant

Chatsworth, California, United States

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The responsibility will include, but is not limited to, the following actions.



  • Variance Analysis
  • Cost of Goods Sold Analysis
  • Margin Analysis and identification of possible re-quotes
  • Month end close for inventory and WIP in collaboration with our Controller, Operations Manager, and VP of Finance.
  • Item reviews and activate items
  • Originates, develops, and compiles cost data where no standard previous data exists
  • Analyzes budget variances, interviews appropriate personnel and reports findings.
  • Cost rollups
  • Cost updates
  • Prepares cost estimates for price quotations of new, redesigned, or modified products for manufacture.
  • Ability to read / understand blueprints and part material spec sheets.
  • Prepares all necessary forms of estimate for approval.
  • Ability to work with a diversity of composite products of complex design entailing a wide scope of manufacturing operations and variations
  • Monthly Reports for management
  • Analyze closed jobs for variance (WIP Account Summary Reports)
  • Run Discrete Job Value Report
  • Update cost records for price changes
  • Shop hours summary produced and analyzed in coordination with our ERP system and production management team
  • Inventory obsolescence preparation and review
  • Review average costing versus actuals for both material and labor
  • Increases organization effectiveness by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce costs
  • Works with various departments, Engineering, Materials, Purchasing, and Manufacturing for accuracy with Routings, Bills of Material, part number set-up and coding, labor reporting and inventory transactions within the manufacturing system
  • Responsible for integrity and accuracy of costing and inventory
  • Analysis of WIP for accuracy
  • Annually re-set labor and overhead rates
  • Work with Engineering and Purchasing Departments to set standard costs for all new manufactured parts
  • Prepare Direct Labor Exceptions Report
  • Review WIP and closing reports for variances
  • Assist with tying inventory and WIP schedules to GL
  • Responsible for month end JE's relating to costing and inventory
  • Identify costing issues before large adjustments are required
  • Participate in cycle counting
  • Provide Jsox cycle count selections
  • Coordinate and participate in cycle counts and year-end counts for audit
  • Special Projects as assigned



JOB SKILLS & ABILITIES:



  • Considerable knowledge of book keeping and accounting and procedures, including intermediate level experience with Microsoft Exel, Word, and Power Point.
  • Knowledge of US GAAP/IFRS
  • Ability to prepare, process, and maintain complex records and reports
  • Ability to follow complex oral and written instructions
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationship with supervisors, associates, and employees

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:



  • H.S. Diploma or Equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Process Engineering preferred
  • Five plus years cost accounting or process engineering experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Expert knowledge of Excel
  • ERP knowledge required (Infor Manufacturing ERP desired), excellent knowledge and experience with complex manufacturing software required
  • Good understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles a plus.
  • Ability to explain and discuss complex cost accounting issues
  • Must be able to work in an office and manufacturing environment
  • Have good verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact professionally with Engineers, Production Staff and Customers.
  • U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident or Refugee/Asylee with Work Permit

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at organizations' facilities.
