Description

General Summary:

The CMM Operator / Programmer is responsible for operating and supporting coordinate measuring machine (CMM)

inspections on critical aerospace components in accordance with customer and internal specifications. This role will

independently execute part measurements, validate conformance to GD&T requirements, and contribute to

continuous improvement of dimensional inspection processes. Programming capability (MCOSMOS, Calypso, Modus)

is highly desirable, and will present an opportunity for future growth. The operator will interface closely with quality

engineering, production, and manufacturing support teams to ensure timely inspection flow and accurate data

collection.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Operates Mitutoyo, Zeiss, and Metris CMMs to perform dimensional inspections on aerospace components.
  • Sets up and validates parts using provided fixtures, models, and work instructions.
  • Interprets engineering drawings and GD&T requirements to ensure compliance with customer specifications and performs first article, in-process, and final inspections using both CMM and manual inspection tools.
  • Reviews and interprets CMM results, identifies potential nonconformances, and escalates issues appropriately.
  • Maintains and organizes CMM programs and related documentation, as well as troubleshoots inspection issues and supports root cause analysis efforts for dimensional discrepancies.
  • Collaborates with Quality Engineers and Manufacturing personnel to resolve measurement-related challenges and improve process flow.
  • On the first shift, this role also includes writing, editing, and validating CMM programs using MCOSMOS, Calypso, or Modus programming languages.
  • May also train other inspection personnel on CMM operation and part setup.
  • Validation activities and calibration checks must be performed to ensure CMM accuracy and reliability.
  • Other related duties may be assigned as needed to support department objectives.



Position Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years of hands-on experience operating CMMs in a manufacturing environment; aerospace preferred.
  • Strong understanding of CMM setup, operation, and measurement interpretation.
  • Familiarity with programming in one or more languages: MCOSMOS, Calypso, Modus. (First shift: required or strongly preferred.)
  • Proficient in blueprint reading, GD&T interpretation, and application of aerospace tolerances.
  • Ability to operate and maintain manual inspection tools (micrometers, calipers, height gages, etc.).
  • Effective communicator; able to interface with cross-functional teams and support floor-level issue resolution.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and documentation practices.
  • Self-directed and dependable, with ability to work independently with minimal supervision
