Overview:

The Renewables Project Engineer position exists within the Project Engineering and Wind/Energy Storage Development Engineering team. The role is responsible for project engineering for assigned projects including scope, cost, risk, and schedule considerations for Deriva Energy's utility scale renewable energy projects (wind, solar, and energy storage). Under general direction with minimal supervision, provides engineering and technical expertise, coordination and management/oversight of theanalysis and design of wind, solar, energy storage, and or other renewable energy system components to meet needs of developers, engineers, contractors, off takers, and interconnecting utilities utilizing knowledge of electric generating facilities, metering, construction standards and utility interconnection requirements. Represents company and department in internal and external meetings and must be able to balance company and customer interests. Specialization in the requirements for interconnecting wind, solar, energy storage, or other renewable energy projects to transmission systems in different locations in the U.S.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide engineering / technical expertise and guidance to manage overall engineering support for projects assigned.

  • Establish technical specifications integrating best engineering practices, relevant codes and standards, lessons learned, requirements of project stakeholders, and interconnecting equipment to provide a comprehensive design package for construction.

  • Coordinate and provide oversight/approval of external engineering and equipment procurement activities.

  • Work as part of a cross-functional team to achieve desired outcomes, including collaboration amongst core project engineering team members as well as other internal and external stakeholders.

  • Interface with Deriva's development, development engineering, operations and maintenance, environmental health and safety, and other internal subject matter experts.

  • Coordinate equipment procurement with Supply Chain for the project within the cost and schedule needs of the project.

  • Establish inspection requirements for purchased equipment and coordinate inspection program to facilitate delivery of quality equipment in accordance with the terms of the procurement agreements.

  • Provide engineering/technical support to the project management/site construction/operations and maintenance teams to address technical issues that arise during construction, commissioning, and operations.

  • Provide input to the project estimating process regarding engineering and procurement activities.

  • Provide input to the project scheduling process regarding engineering and procurement activities.

  • Provide forecasts regarding engineering and procurement schedules on a regular basis to the Project Manager.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree.

  • Minimum of four (4) years of related experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering

  • Proficient in working with office computer applications.

  • Understanding of basic PV, wind, and storage engineering theories and principles

  • Understanding of basic practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations

  • Experience in contract management / administration

  • Negotiation, evaluation / decision making, problem solving and presentation skills

  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Valid driver's license

  • Passing grade on the Engineering Fundamentals Exam

  • Experience in supervising engineering resources and contractors

  • Familiarity with basic principles of Project Management

Working Conditions:

  • This is a hybrid position, with the expectation to be on-site 3 or more days per week as necessary to become familiar with Deriva staff and expectations, and quickly come up to speed.
