The Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) is a progressive public health leader providing services that promote population health, protect public health and the environment, and ensure residents' equitable access to health services and information. Developing a competent public health workforce is integral to the Department's mission. The Health Department is looking to enhance its workforce with a dynamic and innovative individual to fill the Partnership Program Specialist position within the Community Health Development Division.
Duties include:
- Advance the work of the Partnership for Healthier Fairfax (PFHF) community coalition, its associated Fairfax Food Council (FFC) and various committees in the mission to improve community health and promote health equity.
- Establish effective relationships, engage new partners and facilitate collaboration among multidisciplinary multi-sector stakeholders and volunteers throughout the Fairfax community
- Guide and support governance and leadership of the volunteer led coalition infrastructure.
- Develop and mobilize resources to support community health improvement activities
- Develop and disseminate timely internal and external communications about PFHF and FFC events, activities, and progress.
- Facilitate and manage the development, implementation, and annual evaluation of the Community Health Improvement Plan and its associated work plans.
- Engage partners to assemble and update community assessment data for the Fairfax Health District to inform community health improvement efforts and targeted approaches to reduce health disparities.
- Oversee administrative support of the PFHF and the FFC, including program planning, logistics, databases, and web-based resources.
- A successful candidate will be comfortable working evenings and weekends on an occasional basis.
The functional areas of this position are policy development, complex planning, monitoring and evaluation, and project management.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:(Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for "Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to") Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in field related to the assigned functional area; Plus four years of professional work experience within the functional area.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
- Valid driver's license
- AED (Required within 60 days)
- CPR (Required within 60 days)
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a Child Protective Services Registry check, and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
- Additional Work Schedule Requirements: Flexible work schedule may be necessary to accommodate evening and weekend community and partner meetings.
- This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in public health, public administration, or related field of study.
- Five or more years of experience working with community coalitions and with volunteers.
- Five or more years of experience designing, implementing, and contributing to community-based health initiatives with culturally and age-diverse populations, to include food system experience.
- Five or more years of experience developing and maintaining effective working relationships with a variety of individuals and groups, such as community members, businesses, nonprofits and faith-based groups.
- Five or more years of experience working independently.
- Must communicate effectively using verbal, written, and electronic means.
- Advanced knowledge of basic Microsoft Office Suite applications (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Generally, works in an office environment but is also required to perform job duties outside of a typical office setting (e.g. community locations, healthcare facilities) including outdoor settings in all-weather conditions and evening/nighttime hours. Job is generally sedentary in nature. Ability to walk, stand, sit (for long periods of time), kneel, reach, bend, climb stairs, and lift or carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally. Ability to use hands to grasp, handle, or feel. Ability to read data on a computer monitor; operate keyboard driven equipment and computer and use touchscreen. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. Ability to drive a motor vehicle. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
