Job Description: The Software Engineer at Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in Franklin, WI will design, build, and maintain various applications and services, working with DB2 (zOS) and relational databases. Active involvement in all stages of software development lifecycle. Enhance software applications through collaboration with product, business analysts, engineers, and designers. Analyze, design, develop, deploy, and support software solutions using Changeman version controller. Monitor live systems, fix bugs using IBM Debugger, implement new features, maintain documentation, participate in planning sessions, and mentor junior engineers. Make strategic decisions aligned with business goals and customer needs. Ensure application changes meet specified requirements by performing unit testing, integration testing, volume, and regression testing. Utilize COBOL, PL/1, JCL, CICS, Mainframe Utilities, CA7, Control-M, REST, and SOAP UI web services on IBM z/OS platforms. Ensure application software changes are deployed in test, stage, and production environments using standard processes. Apply engineering best practices, analyze and develop software solutions, utilize established monitoring and automation processes, conduct code evaluations. Demonstrate technical leadership, establish and share team standards and best practices within the department. Utilize working relationships across teams within the division, and assess and provide solutions to system-wide problems. Telecommuting permitted up to 2 days per week. Salary $108,568- $189,540 per year. Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering or related field plus 5 years of experience as a software engineer or in a related occupation. Experience must include 4 years with each of the following: (1) COBOL, PL/1, JCL, CICS, Mainframe Utilities, and either CA7 or Control-M; (2) REST or SOAP UI web services on IBM z/OS platforms; (3) Mainframe DB2 and VSAM database applications and SQL; (4) Writing and debugging online and batch applications using IBM Debugger; (5) Analyzing, designing, developing, deploying, and supporting software solutions using Changeman version controller; (6) Jira, TFS, Cherwell or ServiceNow tools; and (7) Development methodologies including Agile and Waterfall.
