POSITION SUMMARY:

The Civil Project Management intern student assists the Estimating and Project Management Departments with
quantifying required materials and processes and identifying other external resources as needed to successfully
bid and construct civil projects in the power generation, pulp and paper, and mining industries.

MasTec's Clean Energy and Infrastructure Group (CE&I) is a $4 billion annual revenue business unit that provides construction services for industrial facilities; building products manufacturers, power generation facilities, manufacturing plants; solar, wind, and thermal energy plants; buildings, and infrastructure.


Responsibilities

During the internship, the Student will be assigned to a local project and or home office, where they will receive
training underthe supervision of a Mentor. Contribution to the project will be limited until the Student demonstrates
proficiency in the required skills. Throughout the internship, the Student will gain exposure to and develop
familiarity with the following tasks and skills:

  • Construction & Quantity Takeoff
    * Read and interpret civil construction drawings, including scales, symbols, project locations, contour
    lines, and utility placements.
    * Perform hand takeoffs for sanitary sewer, stormwater, and potable/fire water pipelines (linear feet,
    bends, fittings, depths, bedding, and backfill).
    * Enter takeoff data into Saiia's internal Excel pipe and quantity sheets.
    * Conduct quantity takeoffs for erosion control, roadways, curb & gutter, sidewalks, grassing areas, HDPE
    liner areas, anchor trenches, and aggregate surfacing.
  • Software & Technical Proficiency
    * Develop AGTEK Earthwork 3D & 4D software skills for volume takeoff.
    * Create accurate KMZ files using AGTEK 4D and Google Earth.
    * Utilize AGTEK to:
    • Import and manipulate PDF and CAD drawings.
    • Digitize and elevate contour lines.
    • Define stripping areas, perimeters, sectional areas, and balance regions.
    • Generate and interpret volume reports and cut/fill maps
  • Bid Preparation & Subcontractor Coordination
    * Communicate effectively with subcontractors via phone and email to solicit proposals and pricing.
    * Review bid documents (drawings, forms, specifications, Q&A, conditions, and schedules) and relay job
    details to subcontractors.
    * Edit and distribute Saiia's "Invitation to Bid" documents.
    * Manage Saiia's Outlook subcontractor vendor list, adding and updating contacts.
    * Populate and track subcontractor pricing using Saiia's internal Excel vendor list.
  • Document Management & File Sharing
    * Navigate the Smartfile FTP site to:
    • Create and organize job files.
    • Upload and share job documents with subcontractors

Qualifications

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:

  • Proficiency in computer programs such as MS Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines while maintaining a focus on quality and process
    improvement.
  • Ability to maintain job or task focus in pressured or time-sensitive situations.
  • Detail oriented and self-motivated.
  • Willingness and demonstrative initiative to learn new programs, systems, and tools as they become
    available.

EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Enrolled as a full-time student in a Civil Engineering, Project Management, or Construction Management,
    degree program.

TRAVEL:

  • This position will travel with manager to job sites or report directly to assigned project
