Corporate Paralegal, Government Contracts & Compliance Manager

Basic Function: This position will serve two critical functions: provide paralegal support to the CEO and oversee contract administration and compliance requirements for our federal government and commercial business.

Significant Responsibilities:

Performs specific job responsibilities:

Contracts Administration:

  • Serves as the primary lead for the analysis, review, and oversight of government and private contracts; collaborates with and provides guidance to the sales team responsible for this business:
  • Uses FARS and DFARS knowledge to serve as the primary lead ensuring contract requirements are understood and met by the team involved in managing customer relationships;
  • Works with sales, engineering, operations, HR, IT, and other departments to understand internal processes and policies related to compliance requirements, holds self responsible for maintaining up-to-date information from these groups.
  • Manages OCC's formal responses to contractual issues and customer inquiries - either working directly with the customer or involving/advising the lead salesperson as appropriate.
  • Manages OCC's customer portal access: maintains access, grants access to others as appropriate
  • Uses general business and paralegal experience to review contracts for private customers.

Compliance

  • Maintains a constant pulse on OCC compliance practices and processes against the ever-changing contract requirements, especially in federal and defense contracting to avoid or predict non-compliance issues with advance notice.
  • Regularly communicates compliance changes to the leadership and sales team for them to make adjustments.
  • Effectively and efficiently manages the "process" of contract administration:
  • Understand the commonalities amongst contracts and supplier certifications to collect and manage an internal informational "catalog" for OCC
  • Maintains calendars to ensure renewal certifications are proactively completed
  • Regular communication with sales to ensure compliance is managed alongside their goal of growing sales.

Corporate Paralegal

  • Supports the CEO in drafting and finalizing legal documentation. Researches and provides input in the development of such documents.
  • Interfaces with counsel on behalf of the CEO
  • Ensures quick turnaround on finalizing, approving, and executing contracts.

Job Scope:

The Corporate Paralegal will report to and provide support to the CEO in researching corporate and organizational matters and drafting/managing related documents. In addition, supports and contributes to growing government sales as the lead personnel for contracts administration, this person will manage all aspects of contractual requirements (using knowledge of FARS, DFARS, and DoD to ensure compliance) to help ensure OCC's success in capturing business.

A successful candidate will have an understanding of federal contracting compliance matters (specifically, FARS and DFARS) to ensure the appropriate reviews and processes are in place to manage contracts. Additionally, project management and organization skills are necessary to effectively manage processes and documentation. This is a collaborative role, working with the corporate leadership team on legal matters and working with the sales and engineering teams on compliance matters.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education: Associates Degree required; Bachelor's Degree preferred. Paralegal Certification required.

Experience: 4-6 years experience on the following subject matters:

  • FARS and DFARS
  • CMMC and NIST-800 (in order to provide support to the IT team member managing CMMC compliance)
  • Contracts review, analysis and oversight (government and private)
  • Non-Disclosure Agreements
  • General business law

Essential Skills, Abilities & Knowledge: Excellent oral communication with the ability to speak clearly and distinctly and to project a courteous and helpful attitude with callers and visitors. Ability to read and follow basic instructions, including quality procedures. Excellent computer skills with experience using software packages. Math and handwriting skills required and the ability to correctly complete all documentation. Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision. Close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and recognize and help resolve problems. Able to work in a fast-paced environment handling multiple tasks.

Working Conditions: Sedentary job requiring sight sufficient for computer use and strong English reading skills. Requires normal hearing sufficient for telephone contact with employees and customers as well as for taking and relaying messages. Significant computer input/typing duties require sufficient manual dexterity. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with a disability to perform essential functions.

Travel: Minimal if located in Roanoke, VA. If remote, quarterly and as-needed travel to Roanoke; quarterly travel to Dallas.
