The Language Services Program Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that the Neighborhood and Community Relations (NCR) department continues to meet the increasing demand, support, and quality assurance of language services offered. The Language Services Program Coordinator manages this program and works with support staff to meet the needs of the enterprise. This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work with some days working remotely and some days working in the office. The City will host an information session regarding this position. The session is intended to answer questions about the position and provide guidance on the application/hiring process. Attendance is not required in order to apply and will not be taken into consideration when selecting candidates to move forward in the process. Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Manage oversight and compliance of the City of Minneapolis' Language Access Plan.
- Support and collaborate on compliance with the City's Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Action Plan, as it pertains to Effective Communication and accessibility to City programs, services, and activities.
- Oversee procurement and management of contracted vendors for the Language Services Program.
- Monitor and coordinate the assignment of vendors to fulfill requested interpreting and translation services via the Language Services Portal.
- Design, support, and implement language services' systems and protocols as integral functions of City department's operations, programs, services, and activities.
- Consult and provide technical support during development of (new) City departments projects, engagement activities, programs, services, and initiatives.
- Consult City staff on increasing accessibility of City programs and services along with developing and implementing effective strategies unique to Minneapolis' diverse communities.
- Develop and support training for other department staff on language access awareness and compliance.
- Identify deficiencies and gaps in City programs, services, and activities which excludes residents and communities based-on language ability.
- Understand City services and build good internal relationships to facilitate connections between departments and residents.
- Gather and produce annual data reports of City's language services usage.
- Develop and support training for other department staff on language access awareness and compliance.

Required Qualifications

Minimum Education Bachelor's Degree in Ethnic Studies, Cultural Linguistics, Public Administration, Communications, Human Services, Anthropology, related fields or equivalent. Minimum Experience: Three years or more experience providing translation/interpretation services, experience working with contractors, experience working with accessibility design, managing programs and projects, developing and presenting reports, consulting,
Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience closely related to the duties of the position MAY be considered. Desirable Qualifications -- Language: Bilingual skills in Spanish, Somali, Amharic, Oromo, Hmong, Vietnamese and/or Lao. Desirable Qualifications -- Cultural competency: Ability to relate and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds and people with disabilities. An updated resume is highly encouraged.
Selection Process: The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process. Eligible List Statement: The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire two months after it has been established. Interview Selection: The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.
