Overview

The KYC Analyst at Navy Federal Credit Union plays a crucial role in the institution's compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC), Customer Due Diligence (CDD), and Enhanced Due Diligence (EDD) regulatory requirements. This position is responsible for conducting thorough due diligence reviews on new and existing members, identifying potential financial crime risks, and ensuring adherence to BSA/AML regulations, FinCEN guidelines, and Navy Federal's internal risk policies. The KYC Analyst will assess risk factors such as member profile, transaction behavior, business type, source of funds, and geographic risk exposure, ensuring proper risk mitigation measures are in place. This role also requires close collaboration with the Transaction Monitoring, EDD, Fraud, and First Line of Defense (FLOD) teams to support the overall financial crime compliance framework.

Responsibilities

  • Perform comprehensive KYC and CDD reviews to confirm Customer Identification Program (CIP) requirements for new and existing members.
  • Analyze documentary and non-documentary verification methods, including identification documents, proof of address, source of funds, and beneficial ownership structures.
  • Utilize third-party tools and open-source intelligence (OSINT) research (Google, LexisNexis, etc.) to identify negative news and gather due diligence information.
  • Assess overall customer risk by reviewing account relationships, business ownership structures, transactional behavior, and industry risk exposure.
  • Collaborate with Transaction Monitoring and EDD teams to provide insights into suspicious transactional behavior and assist in ongoing investigations.
  • Identify red flags related to financial crimes, including money laundering, terrorist financing, human trafficking, and fraud, and escalate concerns accordingly.
  • Liaise with internal teams, including FLOD, Legal, and BSA Operations, to ensure risk mitigation strategies are effectively implemented.
  • Prepare and submit detailed member profile reports in compliance with regulatory guidelines and internal policies.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of KYC policies and procedures to enhance regulatory expectations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Criminal Justice, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 2-5 years of experience in KYC and due diligence in accordance with BSA guidelines at a financial institution.
  • Strong knowledge of BSA/AML regulations, CDD/EDD requirements, and risk-based compliance frameworks.
  • Analytical and investigative skills with the ability to assess risk, detect red flags, and make informed recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to articulate risk findings and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Desired Qualifications

  • CAMS, CKYCA, or other AML certifications are highly desirable.
  • Experience conducting due diligence on complex business structures, high-risk entities, and foreign clients.
  • Familiarity with credit union or retail banking environments with a focus on member due diligence and risk classification

Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00AM - 4:30PM
