Job Summary: The Evidence Custodian serves The University of Alabama Police Department (UAPD). Provides oversight of the department's fleet vehicles to include maintenance, repair, equipment, and supplies. Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of evidence identification, preservation, and collection or police office experience. Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions. Skills and Knowledge: Good attention to detail and documentation skills. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality. Ability to correspond verbally and in writing in a professional manner. Ability to communicate effectively with co-workers, the public, and representatives of other public agencies using courtesy, tact and good judgment. Ability to use logic and reasoning to understand, analyze, and evaluate situations and exercise good judgement to make appropriate decisions. Ability to plan and organize work routine. Ability to work independently. Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and ongoing projects. Ability to learn job specific hardware, software and operating systems and programs. Knowledge of all aspects of crime scene processing, evidence collection, and proper evidence/property control, disposal, and preservation procedures and techniques. Working knowledge in the usage of personal computers and standard application software, such as email, word processing, spreadsheets, and database management programs. Preferred Qualifications: Current Alabama Peace Officer Standards Commission certification. Other applicable certifications in handling police evidence or related field. Experience in overseeing fleet vehicle maintenance as well as managing the equipment logistics for vehicles and personnel.
