St. Jude is seeking a Director of Student Programs to lead the strategic planning, development, and management of experiential learning and workforce development initiatives for undergraduate, master's, and PhD students.

The Director of Student Programs will collaborate closely with the Sr. Director for Research Education and Training to develop a strategic plan to recruit, educate, and develop talented students for experiential learning opportunities and workforce development at St. Jude. Our student programs encompass undergraduate, master's, and PhD level students from local, national, and international academic institutions and are primarily focused on biomedical research. With growing opportunities in other sectors of the institution, including business and administration, patient care, and campus operations, as well as biomedical research, the Director of Student Programs will help create and implement a strategy that supports institutional goals and incorporates best practices in academic administration.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Define vision and strategy for student programs with institutional impact.

  • Oversee coordination and operation of student internship programs within the Academic Programs Office

  • Oversee student program affiliations with partnering institutions

  • Collaborate with key leaders of student education and training programs and other institutional partners to align strategic initiatives

  • Develop and/or lead professional development sessions and shared learning opportunities for students

  • Direct and approve establishment of frameworks/guidelines for student programs including policies, standard operating procedures, incorporating best practices

  • Oversee the development, revision, and/or maintenance of guidelines, policies, and procedures related to student programs

  • Define overall objectives, scope, plans, resource planning and budgeting, and metrics for tracking progress while ensuring alignment with institutional initiatives and strategic priorities.

  • Coach and develop individuals and ensure they have rich career experiences

  • Actively drive processes for team management in terms of goal setting, performance, development, and engagement.

  • Liaise with key St. Jude stakeholders to promote and recognize student programs

  • Provide confidential advising and conflict management support for students

  • Provide strategic insights to senior leadership around student program roadmap from a program management lens in relation to overall departmental/ institutional objectives.

  • Engage in comprehensive review of student support services and resources to facilitate institutional effectiveness and planning;

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the student portion of the St. Jude intranet.

  • Assist the Sr. Director of Research Education and Training with any additional ad hoc and special projects, as necessary;

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Master's or Ph.D. Preferred

Minimum Experience:

  • Minimum Requirement: 10+ years experience in a business facing Program Management role, with substantial consulting leadership & program implementation experience.

  • Demonstrated experience managing/ overseeing/ leading multiple/large/complex program(s), keeping the impact on/ needs of customer in mind.

  • Experience in accreditation is preferred.

  • Fluency with Microsoft office and Google Workspace (gmail, google docs, google sheets, etc.) Zoom and other similar productivity tools are preferred.

  • Knowledge and/or familiarity with higher education regulations preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience in strategic planning, prioritizing of programs and defining approaches for implementation.

  • Significant experience in risk management, issue resolution, resource management, and financial tracking across multiple programs.

  • Significant experience in operational management and budget planning & management through multiple diverse program teams.

  • Experience building systems/tools/processes to leverage program synergies and drive continuous improvement in the quality and consistency of programs.

  • Experience managing program managers/ teams with direct reporting.

  • Proven performance in an earlier role/comparable role.

Compensation

In recognition of certain U.S. state and municipal pay transparency laws, St. Jude is including a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This is an estimate offered in good faith and a specific salary offer takes into account factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the salary range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $104,000 - $186,160 per year for the role of Director-Student Programs.
